"SOUL" Could of been an acronym initially but Tobi may have removed mention of it; probably too odd of a word to make into an acronym out of the thing you use to fight.

As for what it is, I think people look into it too deep without considering what it pretty much is (on the traditional philisophical level): an immortal essence within a human/organism. It is simply formed differently in a human than it is in a monster, resulting in the human's being much more superior.

A monster apparently needs to be goodhearted in order to have a moderately healthy soul, a human doesn't need that. Determination doesnt have much involved within the soul itself, as Frisk is equally determined during pacifist as they are in Genocide; soul absorption may be a thing humans are capable of, hence LOVE.

A monster is basically like your pet dog or cat but sentient, essentially.

It's in capital letter though. If he threw away the idea of it being an acronym, he wouldn't write it in all-capitals literally every single time it is mentioned by any character.
