Undertale

Undertale

Actually, I'm ready to start complaining about Mettaton NEO. (Spoilers)
...He builds this boss battle up SO hardcore. He explains that he's still a super human killing robot and then you tap him, he dies, and lastly you do one of two things.

1.) Continue with your run.

2.) Restart your Geno run.

I like Mettaton. I really do. But ♥♥♥♥ him for these words right here:

"G... GUESS SHE SHOULD HAVE WORKED MORE ON THE DEFENSES... ... YOU MAY HAVE DEFEATED ME... BUT... I KNOW. I CAN TELL FROM THAT STRIKE, DARLING. YOU WERE HOLDING BACK. YES, ASGORE WILL FALL EASILY TO YOU... BUT YOU WON'T HARM HUMANITY, WILL YOU? YOU AREN'T ABSOLUTELY EVIL. IF YOU WERE TRYING TO BE, THEN YOU MESSED UP. AND SO LATE INTO THE SHOW, TOO. HA... HA. AT LEAST NOW, I CAN REST EASY. KNOWING ALPHYS AND THE HUMANS WILL LIVE ON..."

...

"YOU AREN'T ABSOLUTELY EVIL. IF YOU WERE TRYING TO BE, THEN YOU MESSED UP. AND SO LATE INTO THE SHOW, TOO. HA... HA."

... I ruined my run? I just misclicked metta...

I have to restart my whole run? I have to do the grinding all over again? And worst of all...he laughs at you for it?

A common argument is that since this is the genocide run, you aren't supposed to be having fun while playing it. And that argument is dumb as hell! I'm not supposed to be having fun playing a game? A game I play to have fun and kill time? That argument is so bad its funny.

And I really liked NEO's design too. Gun arms are really cool, unfortunately I breathed too hard on him and he died and made fun of me for not breathing on him hard enough. Thanks.

I'm ready to apologize to muffet now. Can someone please tell her that I'm ready to apologize for calling her the shallowest thing in undertale?

Here's how I thought the boss battle would go (as taken from a comment I posted)

I was ready for some megaman jokes in the battle box. Like:

You're dodging the legs and bombs, when suddenly a mini NEO appears in the box. Shooting you with blasts. Then you go back to dodging the legs and bombs,

The second time you see NEO he's now using charged blasts like in the later megaman games.

The third time you see him he's wall hopping on the sides of the battle board like in megaman X as well as blasting and charge blasting you

And the fourth time he's doing all of the above, but if you get close to you he'll start slashing you with his wings similar to the later X games and megaman Zero.

(As you probably noticed, I'm not taking this too serious.)

Did you "check" him before attacking? If you don't attack him right away, I think that botches the genocide run.

I've never done the genocide run, but I have seen videos (I'm a coward). I am also kinda disappointed you instakill NEO even after all the hype, and the fact he looked like a badass potential boss fight.

I would think, since he's a ghost inhabiting a physical robot, he'd be an incredibly difficult battle. The reason Frisk destroys everything with such ease is because monsters are weaker than humans (and genocide makes them more fragile), but Mettaton isn't necessarily a monster.

//It's simple you aren't supposed to have fun with the genocide route. Whether you think it's stupid or not. This game directly goes against killing. Of course he laughs at you for it, you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. And it was funny.

Ok, so it WAS funny I'll give him that. However no matter what video games were meant to entertain, and be an enjoyable experience. Also like it or not I did have fun when I played the Geno run. I guess I'm a monster.

The game basically wants you to have the most boring time as possible, as there is proof of:

All the puzzles are already solved.
The music is slowed down and generally not cheerful in any way.
The ending is not exactly the best in terms of fun.
Some of the fun text like, "It's actually a snowdecahedron." are replaced with text that isn't creative.
All the bosses are a one-hit kill and are not very fun, besides Undyne the Undying and Sans.

So, the game is basically saying to you right in the face that killing things is not fun and should not be condoned. And the reason that you can one-hit kill bosses in the Genocide run is because you absorbed the souls of all the other innocent monsters, increasing your attack, defense, LOVE, and lots of other things that make you stronger. To you, the person that mindlessly rampages around, killing anything in sight just for EXP and gold, Mettaton NEO is nothing but free EXP.

I hope I didn't type all of this for nothing. :alphys:

Nope. I read, and completely understood this (As I'm writing a story myself).

That all sounds good in terms of a book or tv show, but in gameplay terms all of that does more to hurt the game than to help it. I play and replay games because they are fun, and to be honest the geno run could have been fun.

Not ALL games have to be entertaining. You already had enough entertainment not killing things.

Some people, I'm pretty sure, take games way too seriously and don't have fun. This is one of those games that teach you NOT to kill, and it teaches you in making the game not fun.

Again. This make so much sense. The thing is...I know this already.

I know why the game isn't fun. That doesn't make me enjoy or appreciate it any more. It only makes me remember that it isn't fun...

Ok so fighting sans is fun, and undyne the undying, but you get my point.

You don't absorb any souls. LOVE means "level of violence" and EXP is "execution points", your level of violence goes up the more you execute monsters. There's no soul stealing.

And the signs in Waterfall say monster souls fade almost instantly on death, but a boss monster's lasts for a brief moment of time. Toriel's soul shatters, implying you never gathered it, and you never got Asgore's since Flowey breaks it.

Wait, so let me get this straight:

You one shot Asgore, the most powerful monster in the UG...only because killing was easy for you?

I did enjoy the Sans fight, already beat him, like, five times?

I get it that you don't enjoy it because the game's not fun, but it's tough luck. The game doesn't want you to go into the Genocide run, and it's gonna stay that way.

But why include if you don't want me to do it?

Where are those lines coming from?

Also again, this can be said a hundred more times. I was asking "why include it " more to see the opinion of Yielding.

I know why its here. But that doesn't make it good.

As a matter of fact I'd say its holding Undertale back. Only because its a chore to do, but if you want do give a proper review of undertale (As I do) you have to do it. Otherwise you aren't speaking on experiences that you do, and rather experiences that you've seen.

I've been killed by Toriel, and it was hilarious. If I had just watched someone play UT I wouldn't have that memory.
dat_potatoe Feb 26, 2016 @ 11:31pm
Anyways, since I don't think anyone addressed your initial concern:

I believe it's because you didn't kill enough monsters before fighting him. Pretty sure the "attack too weakly" thing is a myth.

So if you didn't save after fighting him you could go finish farming monsters.

//It's included because alot of people do see it as good, this game endources the pacifist run, the genocide run is hard for many reasons. It's there to set a level limit, it's there to have consequences, it's there to add more to the story.

Yeah but he still laughed at me. No matter what I'm not going to be able to get over that.

Now I know what your thinking "A fictional robot laughed at you. You can't get over that?"

And my answer is: Of course I can.

Now a SEXY fictional robot who's smile rivals Fire Lord Ozai in terms of "OH GEEZ"? Nah. I'll hold onto that until I die.

I see, thanks for answer so much on here. Its clear that I was only making fun (kind of) of a situation that I went through, however you were still commited enough to give me legit answers to my questions.

Also for more context as to why I made this...I guess I should state that I've been giving Muffet and Asgore a hard time for a long time because of how wasted their characters were, when in reality Mettaton my have gotten it worse.

...Seriously though, someone get Muffet. I HAVE to say I'm sorry about what I said to her!
