The three triangles represent the Dreemurr family, Asriel being the one pointing down due to him being dead, and the circle surrounded by the wings is Chara/Frisk. With Chara/Frisk's return, they set the monsters free. Gerson's interpretation and Asgore's dialogue make that rather clear.
The triangles, alternatively, could be a broad representation of all monsters and doesn't have to relate to the Dreemurrs.

It's safe to say Toby put it into the game for people to speculate over. I mean it's covered in the game, but if people don't want to data mine, I can understand that
Yeah, cause he put in a lot of detail as to avoid it.
I know that it's something that predates history and has lost it's original meaning, but is now being used to represent the prophecy of an angel returning to either free or annihilate the monsters.
