How to play Undertale with PS4 controller on Mac?

I have a Mac OS X El Capitan and though I've had no problem connecting the wireless PS4 controller to my computer and tested it out on Steam's Big Picture Mode, once I tried to enter Undertale, I was warned that I'd need my keyboard to play and the controller wouldn't work. So after I realized that the controller options didn't even appear on the game, I thought it would help if I just took a few tutorials to understand how to use ControllerMate in order to make Undertale accept my controller's controls as the keyboard commands the game wants... but it still won't respond.
What can I do? Am I doing something wrong? How do I get Undertale to see the connection I'm trying to make with ControllerMate? Is there another way altogether, that is, other than getting a PC? Would a Steam controller even work for Undertale on my Mac?

I've used a wired Xbox360 controller with a PC to play Untertale easily. Why wouldn't a PS4 controller work? Also, again, would a Steam controller work? I'd like to know before dropping fifty bucks on it...

I don't think PS4 controllers actually work on any game at all on PC so don't be suprised.

Yes, sorry about that but they're not actually compatible, for some reason Xbox 360 controllers are though.

i used ps4 controller for goat simulator and portal,and it worked just fine. and yes i'm on mac. undertale is the only game that didn't work with the ps4 controller

hi could you tell me how im on a mac too
