Does Sparing Sans when he asks me to stop ruin the Genocide run?

I wanna know because I want to know what Sans does (Please don't say it here! I don't wanna be spoiled T_T ) but like... If I hit Mercy, and possibly reset maybe after seeing it? Like... Yeah. Can I see what it does without it ruining it? Or do I have to ignore it in order to do a True Genocide? D:

I said I wanted to know if it ruins the Genocide playthrough, not what happens if you hit the button, make sense? Like, I didn't know what Manly said actually happens to you, I didn't want to know, I just wanted to know if it ruined the Run is all :3

Edit: I get a little more of what you're saying now in your comment, my bad. I didn't want to try it in case it ruined the play-through and I'd have to do everything all over again, because, y'know, that'd be a real drag ._.; So I wanted to ask you just to see if it ruined it or not before I checked to see what it was :3
