What does Megalovania REALLY mean? (Spoilers, I guess?)
As most people know at this point, Megalovania is sans' theme at the end of the geno run.
Yet, I keep hearing people say "It's your theme," because of how they automatically assume Megalovania = Megalomania (Obsession with power and stuff). I can see how it can be your theme if it was spelled Megalomania, but then what's the point of using the word Megalovania? I mean there has to be a reason in the word's definition that explains as to why it's given to sans. :conwayheadscratch:

The name was given quite some time before Undertale. I doubt it means everything. I can understand the prons and cringy fanfics but I will NEVER understand this fandom's obsession with theorys. I hope Toby is having a good laugh at the people putting the game under a microscope and searching through every pixel when in reality all they need to figure out is right infront of them.

It was used in his Earthbound Halloween ROM hack, correct?

Yup, and I'm pretty sure it had the same name. I could be wrong about that part but even so I don't think that it's supposed to mean something. If a song name is supposed to have a deep meaning it would be clear (as in the name would be just that). Megalovania is... a name. Doesn't mean anything as far as I know. Corrections are welcome if I'm wrong.

Sans's themes are "Sans" and "Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans".

The song's name is Megalovania because it's similar to Megalomania, the word referring to one's obsession with gaining power... This is supported by its previous uses in the Earthbound Hack (When Dr. Andonuts went power-hungry) and Homestuck (When Vriska and Jack Noir went power-hungry). What happens in the genocide route? You become power-hungry.
I'm... not sure why you don't see this? It's not a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ theory, it's a simple theory; it's a small connection that pretty much anyone can make...
Also, I found this. https://www.reddit.com/r/Undertale/comments/3t7ozv/spoilers_why_is_it_called_megalovania_anyways/

i agree with this thread (as in, the disagreement of megalovania being your theme). honestly, every time i click on a "song that might play when you fight sans" video or "megalovania" video, the comment section is full of "MEGALOVANIA IS YOUR THEME!!!"
i'm so sick of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ undertale theories.
the only reason sans has his turn first is because you triggered the battle.
sans IS the final boss of the genocide route, not you. it's confirmed that he is.
and even then, undertale's megalovania is just a remix of earthbound's megalovania, i believe.
the name has been reused a lot, so i doubt it means anything. (earthbound, homestuck, undertale)
...yeah.

While it is true "sans." is sans' little theme, "TSTMPWYFS" was scrapped and sounds better off in a pacifist run, as it doesn't have that "o shet final boss" feeling that Megalovania has.

Pretty sure STMPWYFS was intentionally unimplemented.

...Who said it was a final boss theme, necessarily, Skelet?

I can slightly see the "It's your theme" thing if by that they refer to the character you name and not Frisk. Because when you, or the person you name, finally show up, don't they say the reason they've come back was power? As in the obsession for power that a megalomaniac would have, though this is also assuming the word megalovania relates or originates from megalomania. Not sure why it was changed to a v, might have no meaning at all, maybe the words aren't related at all, I think they are but there's just a v in megalovania because reasons. Though megalomania would sound cool too, cause mania, at least from the first definition found by google >.< refers to a "mental illness marked by periods of great excitement . . . and overactivity". There's a lot of moving and activity in sans' fight, which would make me thing that by this definition, megalomania would have been a better name than changing it to vania.

this probably didn't make much sense, did it? who cares, it's just a good song.

No one, really. But it's been used for the final boss of Toby's ROM hack and sans (or you if you're still into that theory.)

I can see where you're getting at.

it's frisk's/chara's theme because

-Sans attacks first
-Sans dodges
-and at the end of the day, Sans is the real hero there

So does Omega Flowey.

so seeing that the STMPWYFS has gotten somewhat involved here, just to comment on that, it gives me a Power of NEO feel in a way. Maybe Sans would have had a fight in pacifist/neutral that would use this song, or maybe another song and this one would have ended up his genocide song (due to the fact that I find it similar to Power of NEO for some reason)? But it's probably just a song that was in there because, considering its name I think it's clear it was intentionally left there, but if it had any purpose before that, idunno .-.

omega flowey was the hero all along confirmed
(though he does break the battle system entirely [which makes his fight REALLY cool] so it's kinda different, plus he kinda is asriel who is a good guy so maybe that's entirely true, flowey confirmed hero.

It's a mix of megalomania and transylvania. So a monster town with megalomania being rampant.
