Does fighting Mettaton mess this up?
Are you prevented from being able to deliver Undyne's letter to Alphys if you fight Mettaton and spare him? Is Alphys still in her lab afterwards if you backtrack? Somebody I know wants to be able to see the inside of Sans' room but doesn't want to mess up his Pacifist run.

As long as you don't actually defeat monsters by killing from your direct attacks then you're fine. Hitting them is fine as long as you don't kill them.
No. It's only if you kill him by [FIGHT]-ing that you'll ruin the run.

still never managed to kill him before the show ended, as you don't spare him, he runs out of energy and the battle fades out.

I killed him by fighting when I did a King Papyrus run. So it is possible.

He actually dies if you beat him that way, he doesn't just lose battery power. The defeated sprite is also his normal form broken on the ground.

So even though you now know Alphys has been lying to you, you can still go back and the date won't be affected in any way?

Well you always find out she was lying to you.

Fair enough, I just was worried that her being in that apologetic state would somehow interfere with your ability to initiate the date with her.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can only get the letter in the first place AFTER Mettaton's fight, and only AFTER you've completed at least one Neutral run.

Regardless... no, it doesn't really matter if you've discovered her secret: she's pretty flabergastered (hue hue see what I did there hue hue) that you've not only forgiven her, but wants to go on a date with her (well, SHE thinks), but she goes through with it.

Mettaton's bizzare like that: allegedly you have to actually work to kill him, because the battle auto-ends when the ratings go high enough, and the best way to mitigate his big "shoot the core" attacks is to, well.. shoot the core and drive up the ratings.

I imagine it was quite the headache for those people looking for all the different Neutral endings.

You can't kill anyone in the first place in order to get it. The trigger for the Alphys date requires to first defeat omega flowey, then replay without killing anyone, date papyrus, date undyne, and after Alphys parts ways during the final elevator, you can go back down, and youll get a call from Undyne about her letter between the walkway to the core and the resort.

If you want to get into sans room FIRST, you have to go proceed his judgement dialogue before finishing the true lab or the game won't trigger the judgement.

Just to clarify on this... If you fill the requirements for a Pacifist run on your first try, you only need to reload your save file after beating Flowey. You don't need to play the entire game again unless you've killed someone.

Thank you VERY MUCH for that clarification, buddy.
