Chara's gender is intentionally never stated.

Actually several characters are EXPLICTELY left unstated, with the game defferring to "they" (gender-neutral) pronouns.

Some believe it to be intentional ambiguity for purposes of immersion. That's the idea I go with personally. Other's believe it's either canon non-binary or canon neuter/genderless depending on the character in question.

As for the immersion issue, mishandling such an issue is actually QUITE capable of creating massive fan backlash. All I got to say on that is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity (a subseries heavily story reliant despite both Pokemon and MD being better known for their gameplay) occasionally using a gendered pronoun for the protagonist, was a major talking point, in a negative way, about the game.

As for the UT characters who are referred to via gender-neutral pronouns (primarily "they"):

"PT-BR?" Not familiar with that abbreviation.

MOST fanworks I see tend to use female or neutral pronouns for both Chara and Frisk.

Although not as common, I have seen Frisk with male pronouns in some notable fanworks. Dreemurr Reborn's Frisk being the first one I think of, although that particular AU does aknowledge/reference the existence of other, nonmale Frisks during the newer version of their Chara arc.

Seeing as you are supposed to think you named Frisk, but that you actually named Chara combined with what Toby said on his Twitter concerning what to name the fallen child , I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be up to each player to interpret both of those characters on their own.

Anyways, got to get to work for the next about 5-6 hours.

He doesn't have a gender. It's for you to discide.

I personally dicided that in my playthrough, Frisk and Chara were both Boys, just because I'm a boy. I have nothing against girls, of course.

I'm pretty sure that in english you use "they" if you don't know someone's gender. Where are you from?

I'm pretty sure that in english you use "they" if you don't know someone's gender. Where are you from?

Fixed, and using they as a nongender specific pronoun has only more recently become accepted.

I think that because they are monsters, they don't have the *ahem* stuff that would define a gender. For example, Sans is a skeleton. Thus, it is just composed of collagen and calcium. No gender in there. As for, say, Undyne, they refer to themselves and others refer to them is a "she." My guess is that they kind of pick their preferance and that's it.

As for the Human, Frisk, I have no idea. I think they are ment to be the player, so they're just the gender of the person controlling them. Chara, I assume by appearances, is a girl. Otherwise, no idea.

"They" is not incorrect. It's been used that way for hundreds of years. It's only called incorrect by people who dislike it.
