Kid this was a discussion on why someone WONDERED why everyone hated the community. Not because someone hated the game you apparently devote your life to. Stop bothering other people who either hate the community or the game (also what if I told you asriel is my 3rd hated character in the game
Next to hating the fandom, in combination some people before didnt like the game.
1. Let's players get bombarded with requests to play the game.
1.2 if they don't play it "right" people get mad, even while it's a blind playthrough.
2. Sjw. Because the game has some of the "lesser population" in terms of sex and sexual orientations, a lot of sjw's are attracted to this. Then bc of that they want to " correct" everyone who got their own headcanon bc suddenly they "know" more about the characters. Example: frisk. We never got a gender and toby did this bc he wanted everyone to be able to be emerged. The sjw's however directly begin to scream that they were non binary and said everyone who just shares their own thoughts, that they are "insulting". A pretty stubborn part of the fandom which is best avoided. Tumblr is known for this + the porn.
Thus more irritation.
3. The amount of theories and headcanons. While this is interesting to some, not everyone likes their game to be overanalyzed and researched. it can be tiring to see the 10th gaster theory or sans etc. Not to mention that "Game Theory" did not help with it's video wich now got the reputation of just being made bc of viewer pressure bit made with no actual research.
4. The way other games are brushed aside, sometimes more favourites of other players. Yes, also kinda has to do with gamefaqs. The massive sudden populairity can cause irritation if things start to clash with the likes of "best game ever" and the "i found it an ok/meh" game. The rush in populairity collected so many different players. Not everyone has to like it but in combination with the previous points, most people will get tired to figure out if you're a normal enthiousiast, or one of those points above.
Karima also has some good points
2.I LIKE games being overthinked XD
They asked why people hate the Undertale fandom, I told them the reason why there are people that hate anything that's popular. The more people are associated with something, the more likely it is that the kinds of people you don't want to be a part of that thing will be (those that make porn, cringy fan-fictions, etc). This is also true for people that don't like it as well. Some will have good reasons to not like it or its fans, while others will hate it just to be different or because they just like to ridicule the fans. This isn't for Undertale specifically, this is true for pretty much every fandom that has risen and fallen over the years.
As for Undertale, I could care less what other people think of the game or its community. I know I enjoy it, I have my reasons for why I enjoy it, and that's all that matters to me.
And as for Asriel being your 3rd most hated character...
Well due to my nature I must say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
However, that doesn't necessarily mean your opinion can't be wrong.
Actually I don't really care what you or anyone thinks of the character, and I find it weird that you even brought that up.
Let's not forget that not only fans can be toxic.
Also, try to put all your thoughts in one comment please.
1. Tumblr grabbed hold of it
2. Tumblr ruins anything good
(look at what happened to Steven Universe)
I came to Steam, created my account, bought Undertale, and loved the game. Then I went to the community and was surprised about all the arguments. So not all of us are toxic, some of us just liked the game and are being pulled into the large group of toxic fans out there just because it's proven we played it. I do know the fandom is bad, but this is definitely the first time that happened to a good game.
Noone trying to burn me yet.
Can a person like a game anymore? I'm not completely sure.
