I know how to fix it via file editing, but then everyone will get angry if I tell you how.
Yeah no I know how to fix it with the file editing and I think I'm going to do that.
I understand that ppl are like "you're supposed to live with the consequences of what you did" but if I had the option to delete all the files about my life irl I would do it in a heartbeat lmao.
I'm on a mac so I did the whole ~/Library/Application Support/com.tobyfox.undertale/ thing and delete the undertale.ini file (or maybe it was .uni I already trashed tf outta it so i don't remember lmao) and then i had 3 other files called file0 file8 and file9 so i trashed those as well.
And, I was trying to edit my comment that you quoted, and ended up deleting it instead. Dang it.
oh idk I think it worked for me?? Because when I played the soulless pacifist run, when I started flowey was like "Do your thing Chara" and this time (post - my deleting the files) he did the whole "you're new to the underground aren't cha" speech.
would u happen to know which file causes the effects

Your game should be fixed.
if you're on mac, do the following:
go to the "finder" app (far left of the little bar at the bottom of your screen), and then go to the bar at the top of your screen, it should say "go" as one of the options, press that, then press "go to folder". There will be a search bar, where you should copy in "/Users/YOUR APPLE ID'S NAME/Library/Application Support/com.tobyfox.undertale/". From there, you should delete the file named "system_information_(something, it varies)". This should remove all evidence of a past genocide run.
if you're on windows, there's a much easier way to get the same result:
go to undertale's page on steam, and press the gear next to the game, then press "browse local appdata". Then delete all the files inside of that and you'll have to redownload Undertale. once this is complete, you can open the game back up and you're good to go.
