There are no adults, they all fell down as kids

Or of course, maybe it's because the adults know how dangerous it is at mount Ebott, so only the "foolish" children go there.

Could be that adults are (usually) less superstitious than childeren.

I only recall the box of kids' shoes in a disparity of sizes. But it never specified how many sets of shoes there were. (or why Toriel left them there and not in her own bedroom or somewhere else less 'exposed'...It could be just so that you could grow into them, or something.)

I like to leave it up to interpretation.
