Found Gaster without hacking.

Alright, so i have tried my damndest to keep myself in the dark before playing my first playthrough of undertale. I went in doing a pacifist run, befriending Papyrus in the process, and was on my way to "meet" Undyne when i came across something kinda odd.
After saving at the mouse hole with the crystal cheese, i walked right into a hallway with a grey door. Naturally i went through the door without a second thought, and found myself in front of a figure, which my friends have now told me is Gaster. He was inanimate until i walked up to him, at which point he flashed a smile(?) and vanished. I searched the room further, found nothing, walked out to the hallway, without a door now, and to the right to find Sans at his stand.
Now the entire time i was spooked to say the least, so i decided to go back and check it again, to find that the hallway had disapeared.
How in the world did this happen? My friend, and pretty much the rest of the internet, said this could pretty much only happen by hacking.
I'm mad i didn't capture any footage or screen caps, i was too spooked and thought i was seeing something that everyone else sees when they play through undertale, or something kind of random like Uboa from Ume Nikki.
Regardless, i'd say it made for one hell of a first playthrough.

Lucky you, there's only like a 0.1% chance of actually getting Gaster without file editting. :P

In Version 1.001 any and all Fun Value related events like that door and Gaster can be procured without hacking the game.

in my first run i found it but i just left straight away as i didnt want to have anything to do with it

People already explained this but here's a little deeper. The game has something called "fun value" which is a random value of 1-100 that adds a little event in each playthrough, the # is random unless you edit the file.

There was also "Fun value" which is the same thing but with "F" instead of "f", these include Gaster and some more events, when the game origionally came out, you could only get "Fun value" by editing, but a few updates later changed this (wasnt the most recent update)

Lucky! Not many people get Gaster. You don't know much about him. Have you seen any strange grey monsteres that talk about him? The closest thig I got about Gaster was the "Beware the man who speaksnin hands" thing from the riverperson.
