Theory time! DETERMINATION doesn't melt monsters
People usually think that:

"The fallen monsters in Alphys' True Lab melted and fused together because she injected them with DETERMINATION, and their bodies couldn't handle it."

So injecting DT into a monster would melt them, right? Because their body can't handle it? Well, I think that's not it:

"The fallen monsters in Alphys' True Lab were ill and about to die. If they hadn't been injected with DT, they would have turned to dust. What DT does is to glue things together, so, instead of turning to dust, their bodies didn't completely fall apart, but instead melted and fused together with the other melting monsters."

DT wouldn't melt a healthy monster. Just look at Undyne, she somehow has her own DT, and when does she melt? When you kill her.

You know, that's a really, really good point.

It's been a few hours and you've made 2 really good points.
It's been a few hours and you're better than Matpat will ever be.
(Sorry, I just can't miss an oppitunity to make fun of GT)
I always thought it was just because Undyne is badass, but you make a good point.

Although I see one flaw, now that I think about it.
Undyne got her determination while she was dying. After Frisk stabs her for 20K damage or something, she gets back up because of determination.

Although now that I think about it more, we don't really know how long it takes for a monster to start melting, so she could still be melting really slowly, and starts melting dramaticly faster after she's near death.

In the Asriel battle it would seem that Determination is what keeps Frisk's soul glued together.

I feel flattered :D even though I don't know who or what Matpat is
And... the flaw you saw... uuuh, does the second part of your message invalidate it?

Yes, the second part invalidates it.

Matpat is the name of the owner of the youtube channel, "The Game Theoriests."

Actually, she melts no matter what the circumstances of her death are. In a neutral run, if you lower her health to 0, she starts slowly melting while still fighting you & desperately insisting that she can't die but her body eventually freezes in place, half-melted & she never transforms.

In the Neutral run she slowly melts, Determination keeping her together for some time. She's determined, but not overtly so.

In Genocide the circumstances are different. She knows that she has to win or everything will be destroyed. Her determination is increased tenfold, which is why she makes a full recovery from that strike.

That's because she's DETERMINED to kill you, whether you do genocide or not.

and as the potato with sunglasses said, in Genocide she wants to kill you a lot more.

Yeah I deleted that comment a second after I posted it, because the potato with sunglasses (lol) already answered that.

The monsters that arrived at the true lab were already dead.

I think Determination is sort of like glue in a way. It held the Amalgamates together. But there's 2 types of glue. The really gooey glue that comes from the bottles and gets everywhere, and then the gluesticks. The "gooey glue" that Alphys used on the monsters was man-made (Or should I say monster-made) and Undyne's determination, the "gluestick" was entirely her own.

I just made a really weird analogy, didn't I.

I don't really see the difference between those 2 kinds of DT, except that one is naturally made and the other is extracted artificially.
