Undertale

Does anyone else think that the Neutral ending is far, FAR better then True Pacifist?

I think the neutral ending is perfect, while the true pacifist ending is simply "haha friendship!!!"

I don't think the main focus of Undertale is friendship- in fact I don't really think you become 'friends' with anyone in the game aside from Toriel, Papyrus, Alphys & Sans(these two are debatable), and a couple side NPCs like Monster Kid. I think Undertale is mainly a game about people's hopes, dreams, and the things they have to sacrifice in order to achieve them.

You are constantly told throughout the game that monsters desperately want to get out of the underground, that they see it as a miserable place. The passing conversations of the echo flowers speak of wanting to see the surface, Undyne trained nearly her whole life because she wants her people freed, and many monsters try to kill you because they see the well-being of their people as more important than your life. Even subtle, more artistic things- like the statue in the rain- add to this atmosphere of yearning.

And each time you are reminded of this, you are reminded of another thing- Asgore. One of you has to die. And all the suspense that is built up through the game due to this fact, and due to the situation of the underground, ends in a phenomnal and emotional second-to-final boss. And Omega Flowey is simply a really good (and equally emotional) final boss.

I think the neutral ending is amazing, it feels mature, makes sense, and is this game's peak. As bittersweet as it is, it fits, because Undertale itself is a bittersweet game, skeleton puns be damned.

The true pacifist ending, however, completely dunks on all of this. I think it is undoubtedly the worst ending in the game. It butchers the characters, is filled to the brim with cliches, and feels like it was meant to be put in some other campy anime rpg game. It's a complete denial of logic and good storytelling. It completely ignores everything it built on throughout your journey, it has SEVERAL plot holes... it's a complete travesty.

There is nothing lost, and not for a reason that is realistic or grounded, but because *every* character decided to act in the most ridiculous way possible. I could genuinely spend hours dissecting how terrible it is. I hate it that much- which is a shame because I think everything before it (like the true labs) was really cool and/or funny.

There are several different neutral endings in Undertale and with the exception of failing the genocide route, you will always see the same exact cut-scenes and NPC dialogue each time you go through the neutral route. The only differences the true pacifist route have are going through the true lab and everybody gets out of the underground alive in the end.

And it makes all the characters congregate at the end for practically no reason whatsoever when they realistically would have no reason to do so, it has the Asriel Dreemurr fight replacing the Asgore and Omega Flowey boss fight (not that I think we should fight them again during true pacifist, but Asriel Dreemurr is a terrible boss fight compared to them in terms of emotion, story, and even gameplay), it completely ignores the fact that humans started attacking Asriel once he came to the surface, among several other things that makes me not like True Pacifist.

Good point. I never considered that.

You can still fight Asgore dreemur and Omega flowey, flowey gives you a hint in the phone call, and thenn you can backtrack, the pacifist route just makes both those fights optional.

Wait, huh? What are you even talking about? I'm talking about the neutral ending being better then the true pacifist ending, mainly in terms of story. Did you even read the title?
