i would personally recommend the horrortale fan game. it's well done compared to a lot of other au games where they're just templates of my boss fight but with different clothes/eyes. the horrortale game, which i think is free to play online, is very good ;) have a great day, kid.

Oh, and Undertale yellow is also really good. Probably the only game/story in general that can justify being a prequel in the perspective of a previous human without wasting your time. If I remember correctly, it is still in development and the game spans up until the ruins, but tbf I can't remember the last time I checked so things might have changed. Also pretty much the only fangame I know of that feels like it has it's own identity outside of being an UNDERTALE fangame

Inverted fate battles are stellar. I know it's not standalone game, but they are very creative and have multiple endings. Works best with accompanying comic.

TS!Underswap, Undertale The Otherground and the Undertale Green are my favorites.

I don't see anyone being negative about difficult games. If you don't care about dialogue, you can easily skip it. Stories can be experienced in different ways, including through gameplay. I don't think Undertale would work as visual novel.
