The game doesn't allow me to spare Toriel and restarts my PC instead.

I haven't been able to find anything online about this so I guess I'll have to ask here.

This is my first time playing Undertale on PC. I first played it on Nintendo Switch taking the genocide route my first time around. Needless to say, I wanted to switch it up for my first runthrough on PC and decided to go pacifist. I am at the Toriel boss fight, and my understanding of it is that you keep on selecting "Spare" on each turn until Toriel gives up and lets you leave. The first time I did this, less than 2 spares away from her letting me go I'm guessing, the game froze and my entire computer restarted.

I automatically assumed it was the game, I run a good enough PC (1060, Ryzen 7), and have never had it randomly restart on me like that. Sure enough, I reopened Undertale, went through the dialogue again and got back to the boss fight. The same thing occurred, game frozen and entire PC restarted.

I would open up the game and try again, but something strange did happen with my computer after that 2nd restart. After it restarted, I typed in my password but once I was on my desktop, it had reverted back to the default Windows 10 background on both of my monitors and the File Explorer wasn't showing any data in my SSD or hard-drive. This scared the ♥♥♥♥ out of me, so I restarted again and it seemed to fix itself and go back to the way it was except for removing my profile picture for Windows.

So now out of the fear of randomly losing all my data because Undertale doesn't want me to take a pacifist route, I come to the steam discussions of Undertale; seeking guidance on whatever the ♥♥♥♥ is happening.

By chance are you naming your character Frisk? As this activates a hard mode which ends after you kill or spare Toriel.

No I am not, I just named them after myself since I didn't feel I was ready for a hard mode on my first run through in like 2 years.

That sounds more like a hard drive or power supply unit failure to me

But if it's happening in the exact same spot every time that is extremely weird
