Why is Undertale 2 called Deltarune?

Because it's not Undertale 2. It's an AU.

Deltarune is an anagram of Undertale...also, while it has some of the same characters, it's technically a different universe. I've been playing the game for a few hours now, so I don't know if there is a direct tie between Undertale and Deltarune, but from what I garner from it, alternate universe.

The Delta Rune is in the original game, and plays a significant part in both games.

so what? It's technically not a sequel of undertale, so why would it be called Undertale 2? If EA would make Battlefield VI, would they call it The Sims 5 because it's still EA's AU?
