about asriel
ok so

*clicks tongue*

asriel lost the ability to feel when he became a flower because he didn't have a soul

and

*clicks tongue*

when flowey kills asgore and gets the 6 humans souls, he has the equivalent of everybody's soul in the underground x6

and he couldn't feel sorry for what he was doing because he didn't have a soul

now he has ♥♥♥♥in 6 of em

and he's still the exact same as before, trying extremely hard to kill you

and

*clicks tongue*

*inhales through nose*

at the end of the pacifist route, asriel has the 6 human souls + every single monsters' soul in the underground, which is equal to 7 souls now, which is NOW for some reason enough to get him back into his goat form instead of whatever the ♥♥♥♥ photoshop flowey was

but

it still takes chara themselves playing flashbacks to actually get a ♥♥♥♥ing apology out of asriel

*inhales deeply through nose*

B O I

"so I think this human might be my long gone adopted sibling and best friend, obviously the most logical thing to do is kill them again and go back in time"

Monster souls and human souls are different. Monsters need monster souls in order to feel positive emotions, and a human soul, while more powerful, lacks that ability.

It’s only when Flowey absorbs the souls of the monsters where he is able to feel both their emotions and his own.

And it’s not so much flashbacks, but the fact he finally comes to terms with Chara’s death, when he finally had emotions to feel the weight of it, that makes him stop being evil.

the pacifist route's existence makes me doubt what you said about human souls lacking positive emotions

It’s talked about in one of the librarby books. Human emotions don’t come from their souls. And the human’s consciousness remains in the human soul after death. It’s like sharing a body with someone else.
