Dr Alphys is probably the worst charcter.

After completing every ending I always get annoyed with Alphy's character. It was even more bothersome in the Pacifist run. The reason I feel this way is because of how annoying it was trying to wrap my head around the decisions for creating her.

Spoilers ahead if anyone still hasnt played

Anyway, first point of annoyance was the whole "interrupt the player for randumb tweets lol". I undestand it's a joke because she's a shut-in weeb, but it was a running gag that really started to get on my nervs. They probably could have gone with those frist few tweets when you leave the lab and left it at that, and very sparringly used it as the joke. I.E timing the three switches. Instead she calls and warns you she's going to ruin it. This whole joke really takes away from the replayability as well, whenever I return to this area I always roll my eyes at how boring it's going to be.

Next part about her that makes less sense is her personality. What made it a problem for me was when they tried to explain it. From the initial impressions, I thought it was stereotype, nerdy scientist who doesn't have a lot of interactions with others. But in the true lab it shows she was experimenting on others, and she made some mistakes turning them into hidious monsters. From what they were hinting at she was starting to get depressed for these experiments. In some of the endings it's even implied that she kills herself. As far as I know the only reason she hasn't yet is because of Mettaton and Undyne. Because of how grim this all was her personality should have been completely different. After making such crucial mistakes and feeling so miserable, I beleive she should have been a more reserved character, instead of the "eager to please" kind of being. She's awefully nervous talking to others but it feels like it's because she's shy. For someone who's dedicated time to experimenting on others you'd think she'd be trying to distance herself a bit more. In fact for someone who tried so hard to hide the past it would have been a bit more believable if she was less uninviting in the first place. The first thing she does when she meets you is befriend you then improve your cell phone.

Something else that really bothered me was her date with Undyne. The whole reason she has asked out Undyne on a date is because she was afraid of telling the truth. Not the truth about the True Lab, but the truth about anime not being real... The whole segment could have been a lot more impactful if Alphy felt like she was a true monster and that no one could accept her after what she did. Undyne probably could've been given some time to think it over, later on she could have accepted her for believing what she was doing was the right thing. Something along those lines would have felt better. Instead we get "anime is not real".

Eh, I was going to write how Muffet never fit into anything, and how she was just abruptly introduced as a boss fight, but I chose Alphy instead.

What's everyone else's thoughts? Who do you guys feel is the worst character in the game?

Papyrus. Alphys is definitely annoying, but most of the tweets can be dealt with very quickly. But Papyrus makes you, in his words "suffer through horrible puzzles for no reason". One of my favorite parts of the genocide run is crushing his hopes of putting me through those. Having to date the characters is also annoying, but that's true for both of them. And don't even get me started on Papyrus's arrogance. The single most annoying character trait, in my opinion, is arrogance. And Papyrus is the single most arrogant character in any fictional story that I have ever seen. If the game had a graphic scene of me crushing Papyrus's skull after destroying his body, I would just grin at it. I hate Papyrus.

how do you hate papyrus??? He's really nice! and cool. But I think the worst character in the game is either mettaton or sans. Mettaton's just so weird that it creeps me out. and sans.....well he's also my favourite character but he's freakin annoying (hint: when he explains blue attacks) and also when you battle him in the genocide run, if u spare him when he spares you, the back stabbing traitor kills you

Sans is not a traitor. He kills you because he wants you to have to either go through everything he has, or reset. He wouldn't want to live all alone knowing that he could have tried harder to convince you to reset.

As for why I hate Papyrus, I hate him because of the reasons stated above. I'm not one of those people who evaluates other peoples' personalities based on kindness and coolness. There is so much more to a good character than that.

And just because Mettaton creeps you out doesn't mean he's a candidate for the worst character in the game.

That's the only character I hate too. I also hate people hating on Alphys, Asgore, and Chara. They need more love.

The thing about Toriel is that she also annoys the player quite a bit, like Alphys, but her messages are not as easily dealt with. So I might actually like Toriel less than Alphys (ouch, sorry goat mom).
