Undertale
Gender Confusion (DeltaRune)
Why do people get really confused about genders? Like Susie is a girl (Heck, her name is feminine) but fan-artists draw her very masculine. or how kris is a boy, but people From Game theory call both Kris a She and a He. I think it's hilarious.

So i was wondering, Has anyone had any confusions about characters genders?

The only gender confusion I see consistently is people thinking Ralsei is a girl.
What are you on about? I don't believe it's a gender confusion at all.

Girls can be big and buff and I wholeheartedly support big + buff Susie. Kris is in the same situation as Frisk so I'm just "Eh." at this point about them.

But yeah, I'm curious over why people believe Ralsei to be a girl. First off, he calls himself a prince, and goes by he/him pronouns. Should be no-brainer here, BUT... is it just because he has traits that are traditionally considered feminine in media? (Bakes, a kind do-gooder who wants to be helpful, worries about people and fusses over them, uses healing magic, timid disposition - dude, I've seen people get confused about his gender once it was revealed that he has long eyelashes when the first game came out) I just don't get it... :torielsad:
I think I fixed your comment. And please try to use as few filler words as you can. Platinum medal if you can accomplish that task.

I do not believe Ralsei to be female at first, but some of us believe he's not being entirely truthful and is hiding something. Just ask, and I'll elaborate further.

Asriel is an upstanding member of the community. Lives in what would likely be a stressful, strict, and overly religious setting. Has an overtly feminine alter ego, in a closet.

Think about it. . .

I have my doubts about that. Ralsei only happens to resemble Asriel, and it might not actually be his true form whether or not he turns out to be evil. (Or he at the very least has his own intentions and goals which may clash with the entire Delta Warriors' one. With what we know at this point, we should only half-trust the Prophecy, including taking Ralsei's words with a pinch of salt.)

Hi there, I'm sure you may have good intentions with that but that was entirely unwarranted and I'm fine with how I type online, so please don't do that ever again. I didn't ask for a grammar lesson. c:

I have a pet peeve, primarily if it's on discussion boards like this because filler words are generally only used in oral conversations (if you catch my meaning). Just a tiny one, I'd be a danger to myself if it was more than just a pet peeve!

Also, I don't buy that his manners are strictly feminine because they don't have to be viewed as such. Men can be compassionate (as can Asriel and his Pop), just like women can be tough.
On another note, I think female Ralsei is more notable in the Rule 63 department. Don't confuse that one with the R34 one!

I suspect Ralsei is Asriel’s old OC from when he and Kris played together. An abandoned imaginary friend brought to life. If this is the case, though, he would still be an alter ego of Asriel.
I always thought that ralsei was a filler for the missing place that asriel left by going to college. Ralsei was male because he was a place-taker for Kris's older brother
I thought game uses "they/them" for the players could choose watewer gender they like (boy, girl, etc). I see Kris as a boy and Frisk as girl. idk why is that so, I just do! People worry too much about non-real people genders, one time some Tumblr user shouted at me for me calling Kris "he/him"

Usually it's the story aspect of a game that matters - And the gender of the characters ins't really as important. Undertale shows this well because it's really up to the player what Frisk is - Again, because no matter what you say, it has no real impact on the story of the game.

Why worry about genders

Sorry for the necropost, Chapter 2 just came out and I stumbled across this in a Discord server.

But, exactly the take to have on this. Gender plays 0 part in the game. Hell, the only pronouns I saw were they/them. Whether it's a boy or girl is out of the question. Enjoy the game.

That being said, some people are theorising that they're all non-binary.[cdn.discordapp.com] pog

Susie was a bully and portrayed as rather muscular given her weaponry, I would also portray her rather masculine in an attempt to keep it canon.

I can see why Susie Would be shown as masculine. it makes perfect sense to me. Not every girl fits in with girl stereotypes (Liking flowers and pink, for example). This Idea came to me when i was looking at some of the art on steam. there was a picture (I'll have to find it again later) That had Kris, Ralsei, and Susie. Susie looked a lot like a muscled teen boy, not even having any sign that I could see that she was a girl, like eyelashes or The tiny details that artists use to show that someone is a girl.

In the game, characters refer to Kris as "they" meaning their gender is also ambiguous like Frisk & Chara. Although since the name does sound like the common name "Chris", it does make sense for the vast majority of the world to see Kris as a boy.

Hmm... I only remember people referring to Kris as a 'He', or as Asriel's little brother. Where in the game was Kris called a they?

watch this. In all my playthroughs, I have not once heard or seen Kris be called any male pronouns. :tobdog:

When was Kris referred to as he/him??? Did you pay attention to any time they were referred to in the third person???
its fanart, it is usualy not a good representation of the game (key word usually)
kris, chara, and frisk are all non-binary and use exclusively they/them pronouns. this is emphasized by the fact that kris is completely separate from the player as they are seen disobeying our control in the post-gameplay cutscenes of chapters 1 & 2.
kris is also shown clearly to be their own character as in chapter 2 at the end sleepover segment susie asks who you (kris) would take to the carnival and if you (player) answer anything other than 'susie' susie will respond "Well not when you say it like that." showing that kris themself wants to take susie to the carnival
