The Possibility of Sans Being in Smash Brothers Ultimate
When I first heard about the whole "#Sans4Smash" thing, I originally just thought this was all gonna be a meme and it'd blow over in a month or so.

And at first I could understand why people would think he'd get an appearance in Smash, seeing as how Undertale was ported to the Nintendo Switch, but now I'm at least 75% sure Sans will be a DLC character for Smash.

This is why I believe that: Toby Fox said that Deltarune wouldn't come to any consoles until it was a full game, yet Chapter 1 has already been released on the Nintendo eShop.

And another thing is at the end of Chapter 1, if you speak to Toriel she will say the following, "What's that game that you and Asriel used to play? Super Smashing Fighters?"

Now I'm probably gonna get a lot of backlash for saying this, but Toby Fox does things similar to Scott Cawthon, so I highly doubt he just put that reference in there for no reason, especially when you consider that this game came out before the whole "#Sans4Smash" meme.

But I wanna know what you guys think! :sans:

Edit: Please don't be a total dumbass like Elpeakmonto, if you don't like my post then don't click on it, not everything is about you.

honestly, I kinda hope an Undertale rep will be one of the DLC characters just so that we can debunk the argument that no indie game characters will ever get into a Smash Bros game. I hate people who use that argument and assume that they're automatically right. Joker had a lower chance of becoming a DLC character than any indie game character who exists, because unlike most indie games, his game isn't on any Nintendo consoles. It never got a Switch port, and we don't know if it ever will, but he managed to become a DLC character, so people need to stop using the argument that it's impossible for a character from an indie game to get into Smash bros.

Well let see here... They both have some thing in common. Scott Cawthon and Toby Fox like to leave thing unanswered and keep some thing a mystery in their game. Both have creepy thing in their game. They both count as indie developer. They both usually don't answer all user questions on their game.

I don't think I should talk about fan hate other game for random reason.

I don't think any developer answers things like that, nor should they, as keeping the mystery is the whole point. It keeps people talking about the game long after the fact.

Also, they both like to troll their respective fanbases.

I just thought of something really cool
what if they add Frisk, but he/she is basically just like the Pokemon trainer, but instead of pokemon, the playable characters are Sans, Papyrus, and Undyne?

There is few developer talk about unanswered. Only the one I know of is some thing happen in the game. Look like part of the game. The developer never thought it happen in their game at all.

As cool as that would be, I doubt that would happen seeing as how they're only adding 1 character per DLC reveal.

Honestly, I think Sans would be a better fit for smash than Papyrus.
Reason 1: Sans has more material for attacks, such as Gaster Blasters, whereas Papyrus would just have a bunch of bones.
Reason 2: Sans is more widely known as being related to Undertale. When I came across Undertale, Sans was the first thing I saw.
Reason 3: The HP problem could be easily ignored, as not ignoring it would cause imbalance and potentially be a spoiler.

There are problems with Sans though.

Mainly, he would be a massive spoiler for the genocide route, and while yes it's likely most will get spoiled about it anyway, you still have to think about potential newcomers that will get introduced through Smash.

There's also other things like, it doesn't fit his character at all to be in a fighting tournament, as he would likely see it as being ultimately pointless. He only fights when he sees that he absolutely needs to. You can make an argument with Isabelle, but she also doesn't have a character trait that directly contradicts the fighting tournament scenario. There's also what you pointed out, the fact that he only has 1 HP and that is a significant characteristic, as it's really the only thing that keeps him from being an overpowered Mary Sue.

It really doesn’t matter at this point, really. The “‘epic’” ironic memes that were everywhere on the Internet last October/November made everyone pretty familiar with him.
If you know Sans, you know Megalovania, (or as my friends like to call it, the ‘Sans Song’).

With this logic you could argue that maybe, like, 1/3 of the Smash roster is fit for a fighting game? Mario/Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Diddy Kong, Kirby, etc. Normally, you wouldn’t expect any of these characters to be brawling it out.

Plenty of characters on the roster have been rebalanced to fit the game. Ex; Bayonetta is a god-killing, hundreds-of-years-old witch, but she isn’t as good as Pichu.

What about people in the future, those who didn’t see the memes?

Again, none of those characters have a specific trait that directly contradicts them being in a fighting tournament scenario, Sans does.

But there are better character options from Undertale, such as Papyrus, where this wouldn’t even need to be a factor.

Smash Bros. cares more about representation rather than realism. Reminder that this is a game where 70+ characters from different games/universes duke it out, (for literally no reason), in places like an alien planet, or space. Saying a character shouldn’t be in Smash Bros because of their “character traits”/whatever is silly.

Hypothetically, if an Undertale character were to be added, Sans would undeniably be the best choice. He’s the most well-known, and as others stated above, he has potential for an interesting moveset.

Most the character made into game are usually relate to being a main character in their own game or first party character. Sans don't really count as a main character or also don't count for first party character thought. So we need to get frisk in first for before we getting Sans in.

I think the reason this is so is because the main character of a video game is almost guaranteed to be the most recognizable. This isn't really the case with Undertale; Sans is a much more recognizable character than Frisk. Granted, this is only because of the memes surrounding him, but that's the deal.
