do i need to complete undertale to understand deltarune?

i was interested in undertale in a while, and now that i have a free way to sample the game in the from of Deltarune, i wonder, if it is right to play it first, and then play undertale if i like it.

does delta rune contain spoilers or has precious characters from undertale that will affect my understanding of either game?

Deltarune is an alternate universe of Undertale. The only part that you need to understand from Undertale is the very end, but everything else can be played without any knowledge of Undertale.

I would say; You will enjoy deltarune more, if you've played through Undertale.

You can enjoy it without having played Undertale. You'd just enjoy some parts of it slightly more, I guess.

I dont remember if it was on the site or in the installation that i saw the message that its better to play Undertale before Deltarune.

there are some relations and visual similarities, Deltarune is a (in theory) prequel to Undertale (as shown in a reddit post somewhere) but other than that you wont understand Undertale through Deltarune.
