Undertale

How is sans so powerful.
Yeah, I know, it's been done before, but I have a different take on it.

I think sans is just as weak as the game says, but he uses inventions invented by him and Gaster before the whole Gaster Incident. They were specifically designed by Gaster and Sans for use against any genocidal human that came through the underground.

His telekinesis is yet another magical device. It could possibly be the supposed glove on his left hand. It seems to attach to your soul to manipulate your position. The Telekinesis is controlled by Sans's Patience and Justice. Patience as in his Patience that even though you're surviving, he will still keep attacking, and Justice, the will to destroy the monster in the genocide route you are. When he realizes he can't beat you, and gets tired, his Telekinesis device grows weak, which is why it grows weaker.

Karma is another device he wields. He uses special attacks (The bones for example), to measure your EXP. The higher the EXP, the more damage it deals. It's also the reason why sans doesn't fight you in any other route, even if you've killed most of the underground, but say, around the core, you start sparing, he knew that your Level of Violence and Execution Points wouldn't be enough, and he knew that (even though he's a very powerful enemy) that his determination wouldn't match your's. And eventually, would perish in like, 10-15 turns as opposed to 22.

Other than the devices he could've possibly invented, Sans is the same as his brother. He just doesn't care about fighting seriously until he knows that you must die.
His "Strongest Attack" is fast because he's determined to kill you in the first few seconds. His other "Strongest' Attack is when he's desperate and still wants you to die. After that, he slams the player down in several directions, and then realizes that after all that, you still survived, and his determination drops lowly. However, he has just enough determination, Patience, and Justice to keep you from exiting the box, until he grows tired from all the magic and stuff he's had to do for the past 22 turns, and falls asleep. Of course, this is just a trick to get the player to slash him, Sans knows what the player is going to do, but Chara takes control and slashes him anyways.

Sans is just as powerful as everyone else. He just stacked all of his stats on ATT, and left his HP, and DEF at their minimal level. To compensate for this, he just dodges all of your attacks. Smart.

Yes, he stacked all his stats on att, and uses the devices to simply boost the power since he's determined to kill you at the first turn.
The device thing may be true for the Gaster Blasters, however his blue attack is more likely monster magic based on his soul characteristic, like the other bosses that change the color of your soul.

He "cheats"

First, he use weapons in addition to his magical attacks (the gasterblasters, built in his laboratory) and second, he cheats, he cheats hard.

He dodges in a system that shoudlnt allow him to do it, he can attack you in the menu, he betrays you if you spare him, he came with a poison effect out of the fly because yes.....

winning a race is easy if you are allowed to use a motorcycle and your opponent isnt.

sans is like a munchkin in tabletop RPGs: he gave himself disadvantages that never come into play in order to get powerful attributes. he bends the rules to his advantage in order to give himself an edge in combat.

Not really, his powers and combat moves just ahppen to be a perfect counter to the high LV human.

He isnt "powerful" in general, he is powerful only in a very specific set of circumstances against a very specific kind of opponent.

Who says his powers and movesets countering high LV humans is coincidential? I think it was fully intentional, both by the developer and in-universe by Sans.

I totally think its fully intentional by the developer.

And, most probably, by sans too.

as for what the initial post says, Sans doesn't really have Telekinesis; he has blue soul mode like papyrus. Sans is just changing the direction the heart is being pulled, which can be chalked up to him throwing everything he's got against you. the thing at the end where he forces your heart to the center of the bullet box is probably another of his "shortcuts"

my theory is that he has Determination, I've tried presenting this theory before, along with all the evidence to go with it, but the few people who actually commented on it just said (slightly) toxic things and immediately turned down the theory.

Well he does only have 1HP & has magic powers, basically he's so powerful as he has all these abilities if he couldn't dodge sans would of died instantly. The reason why he only has 1HP is because he hasn't hurt anyone ever.

sans doesnt have telekinesis, he cant even move your body, actually, he just move your soul, and thats it, at the end of the fight you are in the same spot you were at the start with no signs of enviromental damage whatsoever.

If he had Determination he would melt like Undyne.

I believe past experience working with Gaster gave him the knowledge to hack into the game to a small extent. Altering room numbers to teleport, and attack effect editing to make attacks miss like other monsters with determination.
