Markiplier's Let's Play of Undertale is one prime example of a comments section you wouldn't believe to see. People criticized him for the voices he came up for the characters and even dared to give him DEATH THREATS! Are they kidding me?!
As far as I've heard, those people from back then are gone now and moved on to other games. However, those who've been victimized by them are now thinking the new generation is going to be just like the old. As crazy as that sounds, I fully understand them because I have a similar traumatizing experience with the Nintendo fandom. They would judge me for playing games way differently from them over the most nitpicky garbage such as playing certain characters just because of stupid tier lists. That's why I hated the Nintendo fandom for the past decade!
R34 is pretty much a joke around the internet for saying fandom Undertale is bad because of that. Person that looking for porn are a prevert them self. Its kinda like person use it as a excuses just to hate it.
I doubt any of us who've commented here were ever that insane, and anyone who still is doesn't have the attention span or care to stick around for 3 years.
UnderTale is finally what Toby wanted it to be, a little niche game with a decently sized community that pokes fun at, and honors RPGs of yestur-year.
On a side note.
Mentioning a Tier list sounds like Smash tryhards.
If anything, I hope that doesn't discourage you from getting Ultimate. That's all history at least.
I just try to scroll on the "undertale" section on tumblr.
I never added the "porn" tag to it.
You're waaaay off base here. You don't have to search for Sans porn because the Undertards post that crap all over otherwise respectable forums. That's why we call them cancer.
I think you post the wrong video, the video talk about how a fanbase dont ruin a game (which is totally true and no one doubted it) and about the game industry, it actually never adressed where when or if a fanbase can be cancerous or not in itself, and annoying or not. Just if their actions make the game worse or not.
Its like if we said "drugs are bad for you" and you try to prove if wrong posting a video about how doing drugs doesnt increase the chances of raining.
Are you sure you got the video right?
Undertale in the first months got a huge fanbase, which resulted in a huge amount of crap being posted, everything flowing past its "fan boundaries" filters to reach the "daily thread and mainstream". So when you get those UT videos in your recommended daily, you become sick of it. And sooner or later, since those fads are so popular, the awful shait people that may "belong" to this community did.
I personnaly bought Undertale on sale only when it was confirmed the shaitstorm was over.
Reminder for rule 34 : "If it exists, there's pr0n of it, no exception"
Even then, the flow got so big it ended upstream and reaching people who didn't want it. But hey, the "no exception" is here for a reason. It just got so bad everybody seen it.
Assisted to Markiplier's let's play and twitch return. Left after a few minutes because I was disgusted with the chat. "PLAY LIKE THIS YOU ♥♥♥♥" "DO THAT YOU NOOB" on repeat.
And then No Man's Sky was published early because Hello Games was afraid of potential deaths threat if the game got delayed yet again, Jack Gleeson and Kelly Marie Tran got insulted and received deaths threats because of their character...
The only reason some people can see it as a bigger problem for Undertale is the "kid friendly design".
tl;dr. Undertale's fandom is as much a cancer as the others. Make of that what you will.
