Is Undertale's fandom really that toxic/cringey?

So, I really wanna say this right now. Undertale is getting a lot of unwarranted hate right now, mainly due to it's fandom. And I just wanna say... Is the Undertale fandom really that toxic/cringey? Did the fandom really ruin Undertale? (You are all going to hate me on this) Well, maybe not. According to these videos.

(So I gotta say that, just because some people are bad in a fandom, that doesn't mean everyone is bad.)

Edit 7/16/19: I was wrong. These fandoms (also the Undertale fandom) is actually garbage.

Also I know when you said the Fnaf amino is cringey, you weren't talking about the fandom in general but you were refering to the amino club back in amino. Well, we all don't know what is the precentage. But my best answer is that probably 95% of the fanbase has calm and quiet people/fans, and 5% of the fans/people are crazies/toxic fans. I guess that's my answer.

but mostly, generally speaking, it's very easy to miss undertale's cringey part of a fanbase.

i guess youtubers and online personas are easier to get exposed to the cringey side since they did review about undertale and they're famous. That'll attract attention from ...'that' fandom's side.

but for us commoners, it's very easy to dodge. just becareful when you're on tumblr and dont search undertail on google you'll be fine (SERIOUSLY DONT)

many of the fanbase are young people... and... well, they're young. so dont take it too personally and just enjoy the game vanilla. when you do meet one, just simply walk away, because its not worth it to argue.


besides, many awesome things came from the fandom. you see that plethora of sick remixes of megalovania, freaking cool animation you can watch for free, or endless beautiful/awesome/heartwarming fanarts and comic about undertale. there's a whole lot of noice fancontents created because they were moved by this game. and i think thats wonderful.

Yeah, I agree. I ignore the bad side and I stick to the good side tho. And all honesty, this is a great comment honestly.

Its full of cringe, you have to look hard to find uncringy pictures.

Or in wattpad? pinterest? AO3?

In the vast majority of social media, you cant type undertale without being jumped on by thousands of cringy pictures, posts and stories.

Well, there's gonna be some mundane posts in every social media ever. @suryo.clearlite; is right about that it can be cringy at some dark. Like, it's not like the cringe is there like instantly when you search it up, you had to find it. Also, telling that an artist's artwork or fan art is cringy is not cool because it's like telling an artist to stop drawing. (I know you didn't mention the artist thing, ok.) But for goodness sakes, plz don't say the fandom is bad or the majority is cringe, Because that implies you meant to put 50% but when is reality you were probably talking about 5% at most.

The fandom used to be muuuch worse. But the game has died down a bit, we've been given some time (and almost... 3 years? wow) and things are better here.

In any fandom, I'd say it's 5-15% crazy shippers, NSFW, bad OCs, angry kids, and all the things that people link with a bad fanbase. But in a small fandom, this is less noticeable because you have less people. But in a big fandom, 10% of people is a lot of people. So whenever something gets popular, this happens to it.

Shippy and self inserts can be cringy or not, that depends on the writer.

Cringy is things that make you feel uncomfortable or ashamed of what they are doing to the character or the plot. Cringy are things that feel so wrong you cant help but cringe (duh)

Cringe is skeletons with bellies, tongues or ecto-dics.

Extreme violations of the canon and any resemblance of sense or logic.

Cringy is adult skeletons monsters wearing diapers and acting like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Cringy are shameless self inserts in which the writer twists and deforms every single character in body soul and minds to amuse themselves instead of actually creating their own characters.

(if you love a character, you cant help but cringe when he/she is so blatantly mistreated, abused, lobotomized, twisted and deformated)

If you write about a character, respect his original personality and behaviour, if you want a character that thinks X, feels Y and acts Z, create a character like proper artists do, dont take the creative child of another person and brutaly mindrape him like that.

Cringy is mixing necrophilia, zoophilia and pedophilia and pretending its hot and normal.

I have met a lot of wonderful people in the undertale fandom, i have written a bittybones fanfic and follow several undertale tumblrs, i love the undertale community and certainly I focus on the parts of the fandom that i like, i was simply explaining why some people find it cringy.

It have vast amounts of cringe, but, it is a behemot, it has vast amounts of everything.

The game is a masterpiece, and the fandom is well worth it, but just as it has bright lights, it also has deep shadows :p
