Undertale

Undertale

AUs are kinda dumb in my opinion.
If you are in the undertale community (which you obviously are if you're reading this lol, but digress), than you are most likely aware of the alternate universes that have been plaguing the community since launch. These are basically editing a few things about the characters or story and letting other fans run rampid in your headcanon. I was never really a fan of any of them except for a select few that had unique ideas and changed up the story, and here are the reasons why. Feel free to disagree with me and leave your opinion in the comments.

1. Most Are Unoriginal

There are tons upon tons of AUs made by people all across the world, so naturally, a few are going to be similar, but a lot aren’t actual original ideas. I would say that about 35% of AUs are mash-ups of already existing AUs or other franchises, 25% are just swapping the characters’ rolls around, another 25% are just sans, and the remaining 15% are original headcanons. The amount of franchise mashup AUs is baffling. Allow me to list a few. Earthtale(Earthbound & Undertale), fnaftale(Fnaf & Undertale), My Little Tale(MLP & Undertale), Spongetale(Spongebob Squarepants & Undertale) Hometale(Homestuck & Undertale), the list goes on.

2. They don’t make sense

A lot of AUs are treated like conon because of one line that sans says at the end of the genocide run about him mentioning other sanses. This was the whole basis for AUs, but every time you save you game, go on to do something, then reset to that save state, that is making another timeline and, thus, another alternate universe. This means that there are an infinite amount of AUs that are similar to the base game.

Like I said earlier, feel free to disagree with me, this is only my opinion after all. Goodbye and have a swell day.

Lol this might trigger a bunch of people.

I agree with you, save for a few things.
a. There are a few REALLY good AU's out there.
b. Most normal people in this community probably wouldn't consider most if any of the AU's as cannon.

Non-toxic person with non-toxic rants in...undertale fandom?
Rarest mythical creature ever alive?

I can agree with you for the most part while there are some good AUs out there most are just ehhh...Also considering some of the AUs are just combining other Aus that all ready exist like that's original...I think

I do like some Aus, but mainly just the old version of underswap. While I don't hate AUs and i do argee that their are a lot of good ones out there, headcanons and fanfictions were never really my cup of tea. Thx for listening :)

Anyone who has something worth saying and can say it right deserves to be listened to.
You honestly just need to find the right artists/authors.

I can understand why people like swaptale/ underswap, I do enjoy the character designs.

It's really annoying when an artist randomly drops a wicked good comic after a long hiatus with little to no explanation. Like, I get it, your bored. That doesn't mean you should just drop an idea if your bored, especially if it's popular and people are asking about it. If JK Rowling dropped harry potter after the third book I'd bet people would be annoyed. When you start a comic series, you're essentially promising the reader a full story. At least TRY and maybe post what the rest of the storyline was?? There are so many good AU's that have been dropped just like that. I understand some of the artists had good explanations, but others were just like Oh. Oops. Haven't updated in a year.... K Im quitting.

That's really the only issue I have with AU's. Poor time management and communication.

I'd also like to point out that most of them are not developed beyond characters art and soundtracks, plus the occasionnal comic.

But for the rest... yeah, what you said. Kinda feel like "AU" is a word a lot of guys use to try painting a coat of gold over their fan fiction.

And even then, if most of them were more developed and lead to additional universe/character development (what if X/Y was also aware of the "save", what if the last human was a crazed murderer, etc...)

Last, Sans is overrated. He's a black hole around which way too many AU revolve.

ya got kinda off topic (no offence) but thanks for the input. I do agree with that. I used to read the splatoon fancomic "squidzkrieg" but the author just kinda dropped the series after a while which was irritating.
>Talking ♥♥♥♥ about Spongetale.

Pretty sure this is religious discrimination.
