Undertale with be a decade old if Deltarune is set for the 7 Year date.

October 31st 2025 7 years. the max amount time Toby will work on Deltarune and somewhere along the line Undertales 10th birthday. I dread the thought every waking moment.

I started to think about this. It's possible Toby was actually hinting at how he plans to release the game. One chapter a year, with each chapter being a day in the week before Asriel arrives at the end. Making the game 7 chapters long.

(for frame of reference, hussie only just now started posting homestuck's epilogue on its
10th anniversary three after the main storyline ended. :'| )

though i swear i remember Toby mentioning that if he releases Deltarune, it'd be its entire full version rather than a chapter release but I don't remember where he mentioned it...

He said he would release them all in one package once all the chapters were completed, which you would buy.
He never outright said he wasn't releasing it in chapters, but never confirmed he was either. It just seems coincidental that he said "7 years" specifically and it seems the game itself is likely to have 7 chapters.

I think Toby will not need 7 years to complete this game. As far as I understood the tweet then he would take this maximum time. After all, this depends on how far he has put together a team. I also think it is nonsense that Toby will publish a chapter once a year. In the trailer for the switch was also confirmed that the next chapter will be chargeable. So only for the sake of economic gain (you should also remember that he still has to pay his team) and his tweet to Deltarune I would expect from a wait up to a maximum of 3 years with all the chapters.

Keep in mind Chapter 1 took 3 years to complete. Though a lot of hard work has been finished with that, the menus, combat, and the main town, as well as the story and music for the entire game being complete.

A chapter, of 4-6 hours of gameplay for an RPG, a year isn’t that much of a stretch. Especially for a small team of people.

It's clear that RPGs take longer than other games. However, I would like to say that Toby Fox eventually worked on the game alone (+ Temmie). It has also been discovered that Toby Fox has been working on the concept of Deltarune, while at the same time developing Undertale. He also said in the tweet that the story itself is done. Everything that "still" is missing pieces of music, game design, etc. I fully realize that I have used a bit too low at my former time estimate. But I stay 7 years maybe a little over the top. No matter how much we appreciate all the undertals and the previous work on Deltarune, we must not forget that Toby does not build a Final Fantasy here. However, it will remain spongy with estimates anyway, because none of us can even guess what Toby wants to build there.
