Report a translation problem
An "Undine" is a guardian water spirit, and the creature that represents the elemental spirit of water. Undyne also appears in "Waterfall".
Salamanders are the elemental spirits of fire, and Alphys appears in "Hotland".
"Sylphs" are the elemental spirit of air. With the letter A added, rearranging "A sylph" gets you "Alphys".
The other elemental spirit is the gnome, which in Undertale's case could refer to Asgore.
The association of these three characters is that Asgore and Undyne are both characters Alphys has a crush on.

They also aren't bipedal either but considering how Undyne is just a fish, I think toby took some liberties with her design
