Undertale

Worries about Toby Fox and his future projects
Undertale became insanly popular and that kind of popularity forces unwanted expectations on a developer and whatever he/she creates in the future.
With Undertale those expectations are raised very high.
So, I'm worried that unless Toby Fox makes a project as good as or greater than Undertale, a lot of people will be dissapointed, sending un-ending hate comments to Toby Fox and that just doesn't seem right to me.
Someone's opinion of a developer and his work shouldn't be based on just one project and the impact and expectations of any upcoming project compared to Undertale could haunt Toby Fox throughout his career.
I'm mainly worried that if he does make a game below the standard of Undertale, a lot of people could send hate mail and death threats to him and that can cause a lot of stress.

Am I being unreasonable here or am I right to be worried?

Both. While UT has sent the standard very high, this isn't COD or YT, where everyone sends death threats or insults everywhere. Most (using this loosely) UT fans that are above 10 are a little more respectful than that.

Toby Fox doesn't really have a reason to try harder or prove himself anymore. The problem with having a following like Undertale is the same problem that plagued the FNAF series -- the fanbase becomes a hugbox of non-critique that is really hard to wring any meaningful feedback from (you can see him struggling on his twitter whether or not the Flowey photoshop battle was a good idea or not), and therefore the artist surrenders caring so much about quality or craft to his art and just sets the bar to being "good enough".

Making one great game doesn't excuse any future games from criticism, but I doubt people are going to send him tons of hatemail just because it doesn't live up to Undertale.

Frankly I'd just be happy for another good game from him.

And yeah people need to accept that it's rare for a developer to catch lightning in a bottle more than once, and that it's okay if the next game isn't quite as good.

I like undertale but I don't have any expectations.

In fact, besides being the guy who made undertale, I don't know anything about this guy.

Undertale is a one hit wonder.

It'll be fine. In the end, if it's something HE cares about and thinks was awesome to make, that's plenty, I'm sure. He'll take his time.

there won't be any sequal or his other game projects unless he would make his website secret annoucment like fnaf has website www.scottgames.com tells new future sequal
Undertale : Yellow is pretty much the sequel, except it's a prequel (technically), and a fangame. Leave the fandom up to it. And I mean the good fandom.
