Does sparing Napstablook in the Ruins mess up a Genocide run?

I know if you exhaust kill count before you reach him, he fades away. And I know that if you kill him, he never returns again and makes you "lose" one exp. point, but what if I want to spare him instead? Will it mess up my whole run?

I've never done a Genocide that didn't exhaust the killcount before reaching Napstablook, so I actually have no idea. If you can still finish the grind after this, trigger But Nobody Came and Geno-kill Toriel, then presumably you're still en-route. This will be confirmed if you get the Geno versions of the cutscenes in Snowdin and if the Snowdin save point tells you the remaining killcount.

For a reminder, killing Napstablook in a Pacifist run doesn't ruin the run, because you don't gain any EXP. The same goes to the Training Dummy.

Pretty sure if you spare anyone you'll screw up the genocide run. Personally, I would exhaust the kill counter first so you don't have to bother with him.

No, you can Spare anything you want as long as it's not a unique encounter you'll never refight. The only prerequisites for Genocide are to kill all unique encounters, and exhaust the killcount before fighting the area boss.

Alright thanks, that's pretty much most of the questions I have about the genocide route, but when I looked it up before nothing out right said that.

Papyrus' geno route attack is why I've never done finished a geno route, I had to spare him ;; I couldn't kill him. My friend (heartless little-) did manage to do most of the geno route, we just finished Undyne the Undying and now we're at the CORE. However, we accidentally used a bunch of our good items during the Undyne fight, so we're going to be so screwed at the final boss

Tbh bro... if you had problems killing papyrus then you weren't doing a genocide route, or you weren't doing it correctly.
