I mean really, there doesn't need to be a reason for shipping, just as long as two characters exist, don't even have to spend much time seeing fanart or fanfiction to realize why there are so many ships.
It can really be simplified by most thing, in personality or looks, if they find it cute. They will ship it.
This comment confuses me, are you saying that peoples shipping of fictional characters is equal to them seeing everything as sexual?

Though if it isn't sarcastic then it makes more sense in my eyes. Frustration with shipping is a common thing with people, and when it comes down to it, a common criticism is how any resemblence of friendly affection between characters can be turned into a ship.
