I Keep Missing Attacks

I am trying to get past Papyrus and I have the Tough Glove equipped. I keep pressing Z everytime I want to attack, but it keeps missing. Please help me.

He doesn't want to spare Papyrus you idiots. Anyway could be another bug on the long list, try to equip something else.
