"Mushroom Buttons"
So I'm fairly new to this game and RPG games in general. I know there's lots of hidden things, and I get that it "'ruins the fun" if we don't figure it out on our own, but I'm honestly out of ideas to try.

I know in certain areas, mushrooms serve obvious functions as switches, such as the pathways that lead to the Temmie Shop.

But there are also several areas where the mushrooms serve no apparent function, one such example being the "secret room" where Gaster is.

I believe there's four mushrooms just in front of that door, and Ive pressed them all in many orders, and had no effect.
I know how to get into the room and all, I just dont understand why they would put the mushrooms there and allow them to be "switched on and off" if it doesn't actually impact the game in any way. And I don't believe this is the only area in the game that has those seemingly pointless mushroom buttons.
Am I just over thinking things?

Ghaster isn't in that room.

And there's only two places in the entire game with mushrooms. The ones in that room don't do anything, then there's the mushrooms around Temmie village.
Gaster is not there, and the mushrooms don't open that door.

You have to do a certain challenge at the end of the game to open that door. It's just a bonus thing, and not necessary for completion. I've never actually had the patience to open it myself.

However, there is "something" in that room (not behind the door) if you're willing to wait a minute or two, but it's only there before you fight Papyrus.

The mushrooms infront of the "secret door" don't do anything; the door is unlocked by getting through the credits without touching any names[/spoilers]. Gaster is behind a gray door in a room that has a chance to appear when walking towards waterfall from the room where Sans invites you to Grillby's.

The grey door is between the save point with the cheese engulfed in crystal and the room where Sans pranks you with the telescope. Your "fun" value must be 66 to get the hallway, and then there's only a 10% chance the grey door will be in the hall.
