Is Gaster Really Sans?

We all know of the mysterious WD Gaster, presumed to be the mysterious figure encountered in Waterfall, but what if we have had the identity wrong the entire time?

There is an obvious connection between Gaster and Sans either way, with some speculating he is the father of Sans and Papyrus. But what if this connection is closer than we imagined?

There are small bits of what we shall call evidence to support my theory.

The first being the research. Papyrus acknowledges that Sans, like Gaster, can "prank you with time and space". He also has a deep scientific background and uses the Gaster Blaster in genocide runs.

He has a workshop behind his house with a mysterious machine that is broken down and covered as well as some dialogue saying "We discovered an anomaly in the space-time continuum" (or something like that). There are also scientific journals/books in the house, by the couch.

What if Sans just decided "I'm not a fan of being the Royal Scientist anymore" and decided to disappear, and where is a better place to disappear to than the middle of a snow covered forest? The shopkeeper in Snowdin says that Papyrus and Sans just showed up one day, no questions asked.

Sans, like Gaster, can just disappear. Teleporting into and out of areas at a whim. Papyrus acknowledges this to a degree as well. My guess is that Gaster is a cover name, and Papyrus goes with it because, well, he's Papyrus. He's too "sweet and innocent" (as Undyne would say) to question it.

What do you think? I had to keep this short. On mobile and less than 20%.

We all know there's a connection between the two, but you haven't really provided anything that strongly implies Sans and Gaster are one and the same.

Why would Sans need a cover name? If he was the royal scientist I'm pretty sure he could just simply quit the job...Asgore doesn't seem like the kind of person to punish such behavior.

Sans appears in other zones in the game, and it's implied he has regular business in those zones. So he's obviously not trying to hide away from people he used to know.

As Alphys' notes puts it, Asgore is a nice guy. A bit worried for his people, which is understandable given that he's their leader. 4/5 calls were wanting to know what happened to the horrid abominations in true lab, the final call was for a teacup that looked like her. Sometimes to avoid people, you might want to drop off.

We still no nothing of where Sans and Papyrus come from. Like I said above, I'm not too sold on this one. Just put it out there for the entertainment value.

As I type this, a thought occurs. What if Sans is from an alternative timeline? Might explain the machine and how he just suddenly showed up one day.

You can have regular business anywhere if you can teleport.

What I'm saying, Pepperimint, is what if he was a timelord _W_H_O_(get it?) had a regeneration gone wrong. But it was his last regeneration, explaining why Sans died at the end of the genocide ending. nearly giving up any hope of escape, he decided to quit and adopt a new identity: sans. But, with each reset after reset, timeline after timeline, he went on to have a brother, and became less and less timelord until finally, he was nothing more than a skeleton.
And guess what? that strange machine under the curtain that you saw in the secret room- is his TARDIS. and that photo album you saw that had sans and a whole bunch of other people? were his companions. This is what helped sans remember who he really was. Oh, and those strange markings on the blueprints aren't wingding fonts. They're GALIFREIAN. And besides, how else can he teleport, and know so much about timetravel?

His theories aren't a hundred percent fact they're still theories.
