Undertale

The Boss Monster Order Theory.
Note: This is not my head cannon, nor is it probably correct. It's just a thought I had. Let's have some fun and see where it takes us.

I was talking with a guy on DA the other day when Asgore came up. The exact nature of that discussion is not important but it got me thinking. Everyone assumes that the boss monsters and Asgore, Toriel, and Asriel because their the same species, but what if Boss monsters aren't a race, but an order. If your this thought you get to be a boss monster.

Examples:
  • Undyne: is defiantly a member of this order.
  • Napstablook and mad dummy: not members, their ghosts so their tough against humans but vulnerable to monsters.
Mettaton: is not a member yet. Same rules as before. Probably would be allowed in after going EX.
  • Papyrus: That's why he becomes king, all other members of the order who would take the job are either dead or declined.
  • Muffet: Probably thought she doesn't care enough about the underground beyond her little kingdom to take the job as Queen when the other members die.
  • Sans: Possibly, explaining that could take a while.
[*[Alphys: No, she's just a normal monster.
  • Glyde: Wouldn't put it past him.
  • Flowey: In some timelines.
  • So Sorry: Maybe?
I think that's everyone. Maybe people already though of this but I like to think I'm breaking some ground here. :)

Interesting thought.

Nah the souls of boss monster can persist a short time outside of it's body. This can be seen with Toriel and Asgore as there is a little white heart left after you kill them. That's their soul.
You don't have that with the other ones so they aren't boss monsters.
For about 99% of the games monsters, 0HP = instant dusting. Undyne, Papyrus, Sans, and Mettaton can hold themselves (and presumably their souls) together after death, though only temporarily. Maybe that counts, besides how do you check that when letting people in.

The game specifically states that a soul of a boss monster is able to persist shortly after death. This means there is no body left just the soul. You can only see that with Asgore and Toriel. The other ones probably take a bit because of dialogue as this is not neccessary with the other monsters as they do not progress the story in any way except for killing them or sparing them for Neutral, Pacifist and Genocide.

They last longer so they can have their edgy monolouges.
