LISA meanwhile feels like an actual spritual successor to Earthbound.
EarthBound Beginnings is Mother
The only real comparison is that both EarthBound and Undertale act as genre satire. While I prefer EarthBound's writing, I think Undertale is better as an RPG satire. The reason I say this is because Undertale sort of criticizes the structure of rpgs in how they entice the player to continue the game. EarthBound, on the otherhand, is really just a bare bones rpg plot, with a whimsical coat of paint. Luckily, Itoi's writing ability keeps the player interested, and is really what allows the game to become the masterpiece that it is.
I will say however, that I prefer Mother 3 over both of them.
I have yet to play the LISA games, but I hear they are also similar and very good.
OneShot is also a good choice if you're wanting a short game that breaks the 4th wall a lot.
