Why I HATE Underswap.

Underswap, despite all the other cancerous AUs, is still my LEAST favorite AU. I hate it so much, and I'm going to explain why.

1. It's unoriginal.
This one is pretty obvious, the whole AU is just a skin changer.

2. The concept is just plain stupid.
Why would you change the characters personalities?

3. "Alphys the Alpha."
I'm a huge fan of Undyne, so this just really ticks me off. Not the part about Alphys being there, I don't care about that, but the name. It went from the really catchy, awesome sounding name of Undyne the Undying, to just Alphys the Alpha. That is a major step down.

4. Papyrus became an alcoholic and a smoker. This one just makes no sense. They tried to bring in some sort of originality, and they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up.

These are the main reasons why I just despise the Underswap AU. I have plenty of minor nitpicks to add. What is your least favorite AU, and why?

A good 90% of AU's for anything are all equally awful.

Most of them are just a trait swap as you put it. Inverting morality, inverting gender, switching characters around with other characters. All very uninspired. Not that originality is necessarilly a good thing either. Because then you still end up with complete nonsense like "Undertale but everyone is an amoeba in a cowboy themed universe". Point is they're pretty much all fanfiction made by people with no writing skills.

I think really the only kinds of AU I can even remotely tolerate are those where the AU is actually relevant to and unique to the source material and tries to provide an actual alternate timeline that builds off the source material. I.e. "What if Asriel didn't die" or "what if Chara had succeeded" or "what if determination wasn't what powered the world" or so on. Dreemur Reborn is okay in that regard, if that can even be considered an AU.

Even still, even assuming the AU is decent, I find it kind of cringeworthy to have hundreds of instances of fan art, fan animation, etc. devoted to it anyways.

I don't really get what compels people to take time out of their day to think up (usually very mediocre) ideas for AU's, then create obsessive fan content around those ideas. I don't understand the appeal at all. Why, why do people do it? I've moved on from hatred to just complete confusion and curiosity.

I see a drawing of "LE ALL DA DIFFERENT "SANSES" INCLUDING BLUEBERRY SANS xD" and I'm just left sitting there dazed and confused, thinking to myself "why does this exist? What do people see in this?"

Perhaps most important of all (or perhaps not), what in the unholy hell is a "blueberry sans" anyways?
