Sans has a extremely bad reputation for a lot of reasons, but most people only bother to play the game once, or watch a playthrough once, and after that just follow theories and opinions from other people like blind sheeps. If you compare Sans to other characters, you will soon realize not only he is the most underdeveloped main character (Frisk not included as he's not really a "character".), but he's also the only one who drastically gets out of character for no apparent reason, especially in Genocide, for obvious reasons i don't even need to mention.

He has literally zero backstory, i mean, the biggest information we have is that he just appeared out of nowhere. Even on his fight, he explains things like why he doesn't bother to stop you (Even though, realistically, he couldn't stop you anyways because his only fighting advantage only applies if your LV is high). Even on his secret room, not really anything concrete really explains who he is.

But obviously, people love him because he is the "strongest" character even though he's really the weakest for reasons i already explained, and because he's edgy.

I choose sans.

I really like the skele-bros. They're probably my two favorite characters in the game, but when it comes down to choosing between them, the answer to me is very clear. I simply just relate with sans more than I do Papyrus. I feel like my thought process is probably more similar to him, and I can drink to his laid back attitude.

Put in the simplest possible terms, it's introvert vs. extrovert.

Well, since this thread was resurrected from the dead...

I would say I prefer Papyrus. Sans never struck me as a very nice Character, just someone who tolerates the Human due to his promise.. And honestly has a dark sense of humor at times that probably parallels Chara's.

Papyrus on the other hand is rather friendly and does not really "Threaten" the Player in any manner. Even if he wins the fight against you, he chooses not to kill you... Which is the kind of restraint Sans likely would not show if he had not promised to avoid hurting Humans.

Both. Both characters are equally devolped and are great.
Sans character is super interesting. He is a lazy, pun loving skeleton. He seems like a 2d character on the outside, but we know from the dinner date, that he is a deeper than that. He is very caring to his friends. He honors promises, even when he doesn't want to. He has a lot of jobs to pay the bills and most likely help his brother get into the royal guard. He also seems sad. He seems to have a vast knowledge of timelines, and because of that, became depressed, because his actions will never matter. But, his brother is there and is what gives Sans the slightest bit of joy. Papyrus is like Sans' backbone. *funny trombone*

Papyrus puts on a facade just like his brother, of being naive and full of himself, when in reality, he is the opposite. We know that Papyrus has been very sad recently, having self esteem issues, which I can relate to hard. So when he finds a human, he thinks that is the key to becoming great. He knows what death is, despite people saying "He is too innocent to cuss or know what death is." even though the king Papyrus ending shows that he doesn't actually believe that everyone is just away on vacation. Papyrus even has a bit of knowledge about time and space. "Is sans pranking you across time and space again? I HATE IT WHEN HE DOES THAT." He also posseses gaster blasters, or a form of it.

Both are equally great and have a skeleTON of depth.

I meant because this is a Sans VS Papyrus Discussion.

If it were a "Favorite Character" Discussion, I would probably have a hard time choosing. To be honest, Sans probably falls close to the bottom for me.
