Undertale

Undertale

Feely warning (hopefully will be read by Toby Fox, a thank you)
I just wanted to share something with you.
I was made aware of Undertale because of my daughter. I'm a Christian dad, and I invest a lot in the choices my daughter makes at this point (she's 10), and though she wasn't interested in playing the game initially, her interest in youtube and the particular youtubers she watched caused her to be drawn to the characters, memes, and references that keep coming up.
My journey into "getting" Undertale started with my regard for its obvious Earthboundiness (my ear was immediately grabbed by the soundtrack and the style of the game). I thought it was cool that my daughter might get to experience the feeling of playing the quirky and retro 16-bit chip experience of Earthbound in this manner!
I had read some articles pointing out some kind of intentional inclusion of Jewish mysticism, but I was able to see the core of Earthbound, and appreciate the unintentional Jewishness of it. If there is a Jewishness about Undertale, I simply take it it's because Toby Fox is just being Toby Fox and he was raised that way. He's drawing from what he knows. Anyway, once I got past this notion that Undertale was something I should steer my daughter away from, I came to really like it.
Anyway, the other day, I acidentally pulled up a video of the last battle, and immediately the feeling that came over me was a lot like when I was 5 years old and saw the scene in "Care Bears: The Next Generation" where the female character and the villain Dark Heart come to the forefront for a moving segue into the ending.
I am happy to say I am filled with determination to play this game with my daughter to the end because I believe that I can share that moment with her, and I was afraid it wouldn't happen.
Early into my parenting, I learned that I can't force or try too hard to reach these sentimental moments that my daughter isn't turned away from taking part in with me.
I have a feeling that if we can reach the ending of Undertale we'll be able to share that moment I was talking about with regard to the Care Bears in a way that's free for both of us, not forced, and completely comfortable for my daughter and me.
And by the way, Sans is an awesome character to play when me and my daughter sit down and play with toys. I like doing his voice the way that guy in "Grand Theft Auto" spoke to the main character when Luigi was absent the first time. She loves it when I do puns and make all these references to Papyrus.
Cheers, and well done!

Even though I am just a child and anything I say may not matter, I am glad that you were able to experience the game with another person. Especially one that you are close to. Being able to communicate with other people in the midst of action and ask them what you should do, really adds to the experience. I played through the entire game solo, so I was not able to experience it, but I am glad to see that other people are. It's even better knowing that the entire fanbase isn't just "toxic 12 year olds" and that adults are actually showing appreciation and love for the game. Cheers.

At first I found your post awkward and funny that the way you type and explain seems to be more fitting for a child rather than an adult. But for the sake of fairness I gave your post a sincere reading.

But then you mentioning Care Bears made me believe you I am about 10 years old when I watched a television rerun of it.

Cool that you have seem to be enjoying Undertale. Thanks for giving the game a chance and I hope you enjoy the game with your daughter. =)

I wasn't aware of any Jewishness aside from Bonetrousle being a klezmer piece.

I see more Shinto influence than Jewish. The tale of a human child lost in the land of Yokai and having to befriend them to get home is far older than Spirited Away (which is fairly overrated as far as Ghibli works go. Great movie, but Nausicaa and Mononoke and Kiki deserved that Oscar far more)

So I don't get it. You are saying that having a Jewish influence is something bad? I am confused.
