Game not loading on startup

Hey guys, hopefully someone can help me out. So I'm at the part close-ish to the end where Mettatron turns into a person (kinda) and you battle him in this form. The game went completely haywire and froze, so i exited out of it. Then i booted it up again. The game window itself opens, and the UNDERTALE logo shows, but then instead of showing the title sequence it just goes to a black screen and you can hear wind whooshing. None of the keys I press make it do anything else.

My last save was just before the battle I think - can anyone help me, please? Any suggestions? Will I need to copy my save file and uninstall/reinstall the game? I love this game and I really really wanna see it through to the end.

If you uninstall you don't need to copy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, the game is VERY smart and will remember EXACTLY where you left off. A simple unisntall and reinstall will probably fix this, unless someone else played on your account and finished a Genocide run.

Nope, I am the only person in the house with the game and i don't give access to my account to anyone else!

See, the problem is, I can't help you to further fix your issue without spoiling you. I think I know what's causing your problem, but I have no idea how it got triggered if you haven't done the kill everything route.

(That spoiler does NOT have the word spare behind it.)

Thank you for being careful with spoilers!! I know about the alternate endings (not what happens specifically in them though) so if you know how to save my game please don't worry about that :D

The only way to recover your game at this point (unless you go mucking around with system files) is to wait 10 minutes on the black screen and then give up your SOUL. However, this will permanently taint the Pacifist ending...
