[Fix] FMV replacement pack
Since the Steam release comes with badly filtered FMVs that are nowhere as sharp than the first PC release were, here it is :

Mirror here thanks to Avalanch07 : https://sourceforge.net/projects/ff8-better-fmv/files/

Other FMV pack by zwuw (might be better) : http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=16922.0

I've ripped the original .bik from 1st release and resized them to 1280*986 and applied a high quality smart smoother to get rid of the blocking. Thanks to Continuity, I've also replaced the audio with the original PCM audio tracks from the PS1. Video is encoded in VP80 at 3600 kbps.

If anyone wants to contribute with a better pack, feel free to post it here, I'll gladly add it to the OP !

Cheers !

Thank you mate! A real improvement! I wish it was upscaled to 1920x1080 though!

From the current source, believe me, it's no biggie, you couldn't tell the difference if I had upscaled them to 1080P

Even contributing to this point you offered much more that Steam's release...

Am I the only player who has no problem with the Steam release lol!?

Well I've already played the original, enhanced with aali's driver, menu overhaul and DLPB's "Roses and Wine" sound mod (uses the OST). I found those in qhimm forums.

Some of us are eye candy sluts, its one of the major factors on why we choose pc over console. I know it don't make sense to those who don't care, but it is a big issue with a lot of us i guess.

I play PC games because I know of their superiority. Even the new "next gen" is PCs old gne because they are just moving to DX11 while we are pushing DX11.2 and probably 12.

That said, This game is 14 +/- years old, rumor is they do not have the source code or original files so they probably used what they had available.

I don't expect this to have some sort of 1080p nor do I expect FMVs that old made for an era where TVs were barely getting to 480p to look that great.

Kinda sucks. I have a data cap and twice now I have gotten within 10 seconds of finishing the download and then chrome gives me a "unknown network error".

This sucks. Third time is the charm maybe?

Awesome fix, thanks a lot. Hopefully Square can get along with fixing this mess themselves soon enough.

Ok, so the codec I used is definitely involved in a bug causing invisible characters after a FMV. I'm currently trying to find a new one and then I'll reencode everything. Sorry.

Oh thought I was downloading your version, think I got the old bik ones?
Kayael Dec 8, 2013 @ 12:17pm
As you like, whether a question of "how long do you want to wait", seems it's gonna take one day or two before I'm done with reencoding in VP80

Here's the original audio for the PSX FMVs to use with your modified FMVs. The sound quality is far better than the PC version. By the way, the sample rate used in the PSX for these was 37,800hz, instead of the usual 44,100hz. I've renamed the files to match this game's naming standard, just to make it easier for you to make use of them.

Enjoy.
