StrategyEdit
It is advised to evade X-ATM092 until nearer to the shore to maximize the Spirit score portion of the SeeD exam, and not more than the one mandatory escape allowed for the first encounter with X-ATM092.
After the initial battle X-ATM092 will only self-repair five times until it can be destroyed. This means the party needs to inflict 25% HP on X-ATM092 five times to trigger the self-repair sequences, then inflict 100% of its HP a final time to destroy it.
To defeat X-ATM092, it is highly recommended to draw Doubles from Elvoret and use them in the battle against X-ATM092 to dualcast Thunder. It is possible to obtain higher level Lightning magic by teaching Quezacotl T-Mag RF and refining items, such as Dynamo Stones obtained by playing Triple Triad and modifying Blitz cards, or Coral Fragments obtained from Creeps cards.
If the player has no higher level magic, Thunder will work. Selphie is probably the party's best magic caster, who should be given a Guardian Force with Mag-J, while Thunder is a good addition to Zell's or Squall's elemental attack, allowing them to deal more damage with Limit Breaks.
If the Quezacotl knows the Boost ability, a boosted summon can do over 1,000 damage. However, the time limit must be kept in mind; if Quezacotl hasn't learned too many SumMag+ abilities, dualcasting Thunder magic will deal more damage, and is much faster. It might work better not to summon Quezacotl at all and only use Limit Breaks and dualcast Thunder. If the player is lucky, Selphie's Slots will turn up Thundara, Thundaga or even Holy, Meteor and Ultima, which can do massive damage. The End will not work while X-ATM092 can still repair itself; instead of killing it, The End will make X-ATM092 collapse and start repairing.
A good way to prepare for the battle is to train Quezacotl on the Balamb beach, fighting Fastitocalon-Fs for 3 AP each until Quezacotl knows Boost and SumMag+30%, before leaving for Dollet. Having a compatibility of 800 or higher helps as well.
(not my info)
easiest way is probebly to learn T magic. get a lot of thunder spells upgrade them and set them as Squalls elemental attack.
Ifrit Str 20 40 60 bonus (60 comes from Zell card reapears every disc if your worried about not having full collection)
Ill be honest I didnt ever use summons after first playthru since I realized its super easy to make Squall OP as ♥♥♥♥ on disc one.
But i Stoped it cause of the replacement of the very awsome fmv with Quistis with the just going on board and I'm pretty sure that there are fewer SEED points. Since you have Ignored the instruction (withdrawal)
Not even Omega Weapon is a challenge in FFVIII sadly, maybe if you cripple yourself with several restrictions, but still, it's an epic fight as well.
Hitting his repair state every 2 turns. It was a great feeling.
1 summon = 2 Squalls attacks at 9999
Sounds silly to agree with this, but the best approach to this entire game (imo) is level-boosting your initial two characters (Squall and Quisits) to level 50-60. And don't groan "ah man, but that's so boring running around Balamb". I love this game, I've done it, I've made "Easter Egg" saves to never do it again, but it's worth it. Get them to 60ish before the Fire Cavarn and the first parts of the game run much smoother for the player. The Fire Cavarn and the escape from Dollet become less stressfull.
Of which, the only time you can "beat" the spider is on the bridge during the escape. Your maximum potential score is based off of three four things. One: Only having one escape, period. Two: Not "loosing your footing" while running down the path you find a downed soldier on your way to the comm tower. Three: Your TIME; the more time you have on the clock, the higher your scoring. Four: If you choose to defeat the X-A on the bridge, you'll get notably credited for it, and make up for having a second "escape", but your score will not be /quite/ as high.
Want to beat it? Use Squall with Thunder junctioned into his attacks. With Squall/Quisitis at 60+ in level, Selphie and Zell will appear at higher levels as well. Zell will defunct to 25 (or so, been a while), but they'll be at a level higher than the game is programmed to anticipate for that early mission. Just cause you'd be level 60+ doesn't mean you can't still get your butt kicked. The icing is in the fact that your GF's will have leveled with you (minimum Quez and Shiva), and will have learned plenty of junction abilities to help improve your survival and attacks.
actually he can only be defeated on the bridge.
Actually, no. He can be defeated anywhere you want, except it yields the most for your seed rank to do it at the bridge.
I did it earlier today on the mountain, the cliff in which X-ATM092 jumps up onto you. So, why are so many saying you can "only" do it on the bridge?
Only downside to actually destroying it is that you'll miss out on a CG cutscene when returning to the boat.
You're right, my mistake. I had a brady games guidebook as a kid, I believe it mentioned only killing the spider on the bridge. I never questioned otherwise. Killed the thing once in my 3 playthroughs but I couldn't bare to do it again-that cutscene is just too kick-ass.
