It literally plays itself. You can get it to level 100 in 2-3 nights of idling.
Nothing.
And yes as far as I was always aware, the only items never to drop in Chocobo World are any and all magazines. Holy War and Holy War Trials.
I also got Doomtrain on my first Steam play through straight after completing one Chocobo forest to enable me to bring Boko home.
I'm curious to see if it's a function of level - my CW save is maxed out at level 100, and a number of the items on the list are direct inferiors of ones on the top list (Healing Mail and Gold Armor are inferior to Silver Mail and Diamond Armor, respectively.) I'll have to give the bird's level a quick tweak and run a few tests at level 1 to find out.
Also, I am using the old PC release of FF8, not the steam version, so that's not the difference.
(Also the Girl Next Door is like the <spoiler>'s Letter you get in Disc 3 - their icons are the miscellaneous textured circle, not the icon for a readable magazine like Weapons Monthly.
