Abolishing a card rule.

Played this game years ago and I never really got into the card game. I'm in Dollet right before you have to go to Galbadia Garden. I'm trying to get rid of the 'Random' rule, but everytime I start a 'mixed' game and quit twice, it just spread the 'open' rule. I've done this 25 times now and each time it only spreads the 'open' rule.

Is the chance of getting rid of the 'random' rule ridiculiusly low or am I doing something wrong?

There is a way to use the RNG system to your advantage.

You need the Queen of Cards in Dollet for this to work.

• First, go to Timber and pick up the rules from there. To do this, challenge the left guard at the entrance and refuse him until he stops asking to mix rules. Then accept a game and on the rules screen, you can quit (you don't have to actually play a game with him, just getting to the rules screen is enough to pick up the region's rules).
  
• Go back to Dollet, go to the hotel, and save at the save point.
  
• Do a hard reset. For the Steam version, closing the game and then re-launching it works. A soft reset will not work.
  
• Run out of the hotel and immediately turn around and run back into the hotel.
  
• Now challenge and refuse the girl standing next to the save point twice.
  
• Now challenge and accept, but quit without playing.
  
• If you haven't already spread Open, the first time you do this it will spread Open. Head back to Timber and repeat the above steps. This time it will abolish the Random rule. This works 100% of the time.

Spreading open is a good thing. Now go back to timber and pick rules from there. then come back to dollet again and you can abolish the random now

Easier way is to just play the guy squatting in balamb gazing to the ocean then all rules go to the default.

I've tried a lot of supposed proven methods... you know, like go there, and do that, with the same result you had: only spreading "open" rule.

I talked to the Queen of Cards (I found her in Balamb, near the Station)... in some post someone said that there she could abolish "random", if I pay her 3000 gil to do so. But instead, she want me to pay her 30,000 to spread "same")

I´ve followed many instructions to abolish rules, every step, without the desired results. I begin to think there´s some random factors in all this of abolishing and spreading rules, and that all those methods are merely anecdotal.

neoxephon that works for every place (like the lunar base) or is just for Timber/Dollet?
Im trying to abolish the random rule to face Ellone to get the Laguna Card. She is pretty damn difficult since she has almost all rules apllied

Sorry to necro such an old thread but Neoxephon's method worked for me although the card queen was in Balamb and I had to challenge the girl in the hotel 5 times

I know this thread is slowly dying, but I'd appreciate if someone bothered to do an all-steam-version guide for getting rid of all the unwanted (Same, Plus, Random and Elemental) rules, so that the Triple Triad is at least tolerable.
I mean, elements I can live with, but thanks to the solution neoxephon kindly shared with us, I was able to get rid of the Random-rule. We'll just see if RPGGranny's guide works on the rest of the annoying rules in this version...

I've been using RPGrannys guide for the steam version and it's been working really well. Everytime I get stuck on a particular part that is "random", I just Google an rng trick for my particular issue

That's the thing; Granny's guide says you should use the car rental chick just to the right of Dollet enterance, but for me she seems to only either spread Same, abolish Open or nothing at all, while hotel lady immediately abolished Random. Getting rid of Random is a huge boon, I'll give that, but it'd be still nice to lose the Element, too.

On the side-note: I indeed have played also the PS1 version and Granny's guide has done me right there. I can only conclude that the Steam version is slightly altered, when it comes to rule abolishing in TT.

I don't think it's altered, you just got very lucky. The guide said it could take a long time and to not get discouraged. More than once. I emailed the creator of that guide suggesting to include the RNG tricks awhile ago, but I doubt she'll ever respond or update it lol. Either way, it's just easier to Google RNG tricks when you get stuck

I didn't say it didn't take a long time. I was hammering the rule-abolishing for Dollet alone for a ridiculous time (somewhere around 18h) until I got both Element and Random abolished. I'd say I tried somewhere around the same time on the Steam version using the Granny's method and still have gotten rid of only Random so far.
But like I said, Element is a minor nuisance, as Random (along with Plus) is a major pain in the backside, but still would be nice to have the entire game to have Open as the sole rule. Perhaps I just need to keep at it or try to figure out the RNG. Patience is truely a virtue, in this case...

I tried that and it worked.... then I played somewhere else and the rules just started coming back... ha ha.

They shouldn't come back, unless you reset the rules, which, as I've witnessed, is instant. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this course of action, since erasing Plus is going to be a pain. I suppose the only way to get all other rules but Open to be abolished is either by the RNG or Granny's guide.
