Laguna's Fourth Dream
I have played FFVIII around a dozen times now. I am doing a quick play through just to achieve the Contrived Finish Achievement.

For the first time ever, in all history of me playing this game, I only got Kiros as a comrade on Laguna's Fourth Dream (shooting the film and battling the Ruby Dragon). This time, however, when I've done pretty much no side quests or talked to anyone or played any cards (just nothing), I got Ward with Kiros.

What is it in the game that affects whether you get Ward or not during the fourth dream sequence? What difference does it make?

The only thing I can think of that affects Laguna's story so much is visiting the Shumi Village , which I have not done this time.

Reading the Timber Maniacs magazine found in Shumi Village before Laguna's Fourth Dream is what does that.

Yeah, that's it. If you've visited Shumi Village and read the Timber Maniacs issue, which can be found there, Ward will not appear in the dream sequence with the Ruby Dragon. I don't know exactly why this is, but it really doesn't change much, not even the dialogue. The only thing that is different is the fight against the dragon, which gets a little bit easier with 3 party members.

If you go to Squall's computer terminal in the classroom on Balamb Garden, you can view "Sir Laguna's Page" which is basically a compilation of all of the Timber Maniacs that you've found.

Skipping through it, you'll get to a picture of the fight with the Ruby Dragon from the dream. It says "I just find it strange that I don't see Ward in the picture..." (even though if you look at the picture, you can see Ward in the left edge). Anyway, that's why he's not in the dream sequence if you've read that issue of Timber Maniacs.

You replaying the whole game just for 1 stupid chievo?
The game can't be completed cause of the seriously F.0 BS chievo anyway who cares.
if it was FF7 i'd say it worth it but 8 is not that great or fun, waste of time.
Yes what they say is true that the cause you can come back disc 3 to get the magazine in shumi village, i tested it.
Still there after the flashback.

You're entitled to your opinion. There are obviously plenty of people who *do* like FFVIII and get great enjoyment out of it, therefore, not a waste of time. Just because you do not like it, doesn't mean the game doesn't have any value to anyone else. :/

As long as you enjoy it bra and aint playing it just for some stupid pic.
That's fine just making sure you playing for fun and more than a pic enjoy!
Better than not leveling up the first time like most people do, you doing it the better way.
and i do like FF8 just not as much as 7 and 9 cause they much better all the PS1 FF's are good.
The one square RPG i don't like on PS1 is Chrono Cross but it got a good OST and 2 world maps so aint that bad either.
Just hate the the no mp and allocating system.
if i knew would have got Legend of Dragoon first and got Chrono greatest hits not other way around or xeno gears that much better too, still don't have it.

What pic?
Warrior of Right Dec 30, 2013 @ 6:23am
The Chievo pic. Cause that all you get since you can't complete the game cause of the 10,000 kills, stupid of squenix beat it didn't even get 1000 kills BS.
They got the FF7 chievos right they couldn't have got this right too?
You know the only reason they have them is cause they know this the last one coming to steam as it was the last one ported to PC.
All the chievo lists pre release didn't have a hint of this garbage, added last second so no one could call them out on the BS.
Squenix is getting sneakier.

Well, you can complete the 10,000 kills if you want. Plenty of people have. I could do it very easily if I could be bothered, but I am not. I'm not really up on "pics" or badges, or whatever. My husband installed Steam on my PC years ago so he could play a few games when he came round my parents' house. When we moved in together, I uninstalled. Several years later I reinstalled it only because of the FFVIII release on it. My husband mentioned badges and whatnot and "trading" cards but none of it means anything to me. I just want to play the game I love so much. :) I've taken on the contrived finish just so I can play it a different way, and choose all the options and characters I wouldn't normally choose so I can see different dialogue, etc. It's been a lot of fun so far. :) Really enjoyed the consequences of sending Rinoa to the Missile Base instead of bringing her to Balamb with Squall for example. :)

Of course you can complete 10 000 kills just could beat 10 other games in that time or do something else unless you cheat.
Yep that's the way to do it so you actually experiancing it in a new way.
Ya i sent Rinoa to the missile base the first time on PC, usually though if i want to see how a scene plays out differently i'll just save right before and try them all out so i remember the difference instead of waiting for a new playthrough.

Funny you should say that, because when I play or should I say used to play FF7, I felt the exact same way that you feel about FF8. However FF8 is pretty great & fun on playstation at least..
