The whole Limit Break system sucks in FFVIII and can be abused to wipe the floor with most enemies in the game.
I don't understand why they felt that it had to change from FFVII.
in FF7 you could abuse the limit break system. you can learn most limit breaks very early if you know what to do. that, and all you had to do was go through a few battles and let yourself get hit enough, then finish them off with magic and use limit breaks on the bosses for an easy kill. ff8 had more of a risk/reward type thing going. yes you could just leave your characters in low health, but they'd be more likely to die in battle. because you can only have 4 abilities junctioned for battle (attack was always there, but the other 3 were chosen and set) not everyone would be able to revive players using items, and not everyone would have life magic to revive. you could do massive damage IF you decided that dealing some hard damage early would be worth wasting a few turns to revive characters.
I think the ff8 limit system is better than the standard "get hit a certain time and do combo" thing. It´s something else. And in the late game you will need aura (which gives you almost a 100% chance to do limit attacks every turn) to beat certain optional bosses.
ps. also get squalls ultimate weapon. the limit attack "heartbreaker" (i believe) is pretty damn awsome!
Whishing star is similar to hearbreaker (but not as strong since Squall makes much more hits with this limit) but it deals damage to all enemies so it's a limit break which is good against more powerful enemies.

Heartbreaker is good against very strong but lonely bosses.

That's cheap but it kills EVERY enemy immediatley XD
That's true.
You can mug a fury fragment from a blue dragon and convert it into 5x Aura.
But don't forget that you need one fury fragment for Zells strongest gauntlets.
You push the trigger button (e by default) when the bar thingy is in the range of it. It'll say hit or something when you do it right.
