D-District Prison and the Rosetta Stones
Has anyone played the prisoner on the 11th floor to acquire the Rosetta Stones (teaches Ability x4). If so how long did it take you or how many card games did you roughly have to play,

About 100 games, got 1, I was happy, left him to rot after that. Stupid low percent chances. QQ

I've gotten 1. I just want to get 1 more then I won't mind as much because you will have another Ability x4 when you equip Bahamut as a GF. I want all 3 characters to be able to have it.

You get 2 Rosetta Stones later on in the game for free. And you also get a GF that already has Ability x4. Getting the Rosetta Stones is not worth the time it takes to try and get them since you get 2 later for free.

I haven't played this game in years, where do you get 2 for free again?

you get one from esthar by going to the shopping mall and repeatedly click on the very last shop that is always closed. It will eventually give you one. ( dunno if you have to have zell or not in your party.). The other one you get is from ultimecia's castle, forgot where but its in there somewhere =p

Way 1. Play Triple Triad against the prisoner on the 11th floor of the D-District Prison.

Way 2. Refine a Dark Matter from 100 Curse Spikes, then refine that Dark Matter into a Shaman Stone and then refine the Shaman Stone into a Rosetta Stone. (Going from the Tool-RF), though if I recall correctly - Siren has to be Level 100 before Dark Matter and the like can be refined in order to get them this particular way.

Monsters that drop Curse Spikes:

Creeps (Deiling City Sewers)
Forbidden (Centra Ruins)
Grand Mantis (Deiling City Sewers, Centra forests)
Imp (Esthar overall)
Malboro (Esthar overall)
Tri-Face (Balamb Garden MD-Level, Galbadia Garden)

Though they can nearly all be found at the Island Closest to Hell or in the Deep Sea Research Centre and Ultimecia's Castle later on in the game.

The Imps will appear more in Esthar after the Lunar Cry and can also be found over at Tears Point.

Way 3. Repeatedly check Cheryl's Store in Esthar (before, during and after the Lunatic Pandora, Lunar Cry events - doesn't particularly matter as I've gotten it randomly after checking the store repeatedly).

Way 4. Press all controller buttons (bar the Soft Reset - you don't need to worry about that in the PC version) on the organ in Ultimecia's Castle - this will open up the gated hallway enabling you to close the sluiceway enabling access to another area in the Castle where you'll find the last free Rosetta Stone as a reward for that particular puzzle.

Hopefully that helps!

In this version, Siren does not need to be Level 100 in order to refine a Shaman Stone into a Rosetta Stone.

Ah, good to know! I played the PS1 version more so I'm glad to hear about that difference.

Thank you very much.:)

Theres a certain trick you can use to always get rosetta stone every reset, not sure if you can do it on pc though, there's a video on youtube about it

It's actually very easy. All you have to do is run there as fast as you can and saying no 54 times when asking him to play card game. I've got one and right now, I'm doing it again.

I've used that trick and it works on PS1. Don't think it works on the PC version, but if it does you'll need a usb controller. It won't work with a keyboard.

Or you could just get like... loads of Rosetta stones from Chocobo World from early disc 2 onwards.

Which is just after you get the floating garden.

Yeah the prison is sooner. But that's very unreliable.
When Sister first posted her card game FF8 FAQ on Gamefaqs I played 1000+ games the first time before I got a Rosetta Stone. Yes really.. 1000+ :/

That being said, I've had 2 in the first 30 games also in previous play throughs.
That also being said again, yes there's the RNG manipulation way of getting one every time.
I can only assume it works. Because the aboloshing Dollet card rules RNG method works 100% for me. So I would assume the prison one does too. Albeit it's a bit more long winded.

I luckily got 1 after only playing a few games with him. Don't think I'll get that lucky again though.

Wrong: it WILL work with a keyboard, and it's in fact much easier than with a controller.

So how am I supposed to figure out if the Queen of Cards is in Deling City or not if I'm stuck in a prison? >_>
