[MODDING] Custom Songs with Roses and Wine mod.

A Collation of songs for Roses and Wine and useful links

As many of you may be aware, several members of the community have been hard at work getting Final Fantasy VIII to look, feel and sound perfect whether it's to restore the game to it's former glory or to enhance it further.

Now, with Roses and Wine (if you haven't already, install Roses and Wine which can be found here, it's possible to load custom songs. To do this, one simply needs navigate to "Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VIII\Data\OGG" and replace any particular song with one they'd like for example, if you wanted to change the regular battle music with something else, you'd replace 05 don't be afraid.ogg. (Remember, always back up first so you can restore anything in-case you make a mistake).

Now this is where it gets tricky, the replacement song, needs to be looped, this means that the song will continue playing during the battle or other scene from a section within the song that has been set to loop, this is how we have endless battle songs that don't repeat the introduction of the song.

Yeah, i would like a pack to download which gives alternatives, but based on common instruments. I like Black Mages Force your way as he seems to expirament with different instruments.

Updated to include "The Oath from the Piano Collections". I quite like this along with Fishermans Horizon for being more of a gentle and heartwarming feel.

Shameless bump, I just wanted to say, after completing the game just now, Premonition, Maybe I'm a Lion and The Extreme really make the end game battles really fantastic.

So if you guys haven't already, give these tracks a try, or at least listen to them :D

I've been using 'Otherworld' for my battle music :D
The song from the opening FMV of FF10 :)

Really doesn't suit the whole FF8 vibe, just pretty cool :p

Eng = i have a little problem with final fantasy VIII with the WaR (wine and roses) mod , i wanted to use it because i really liked the music remakes but once i installed it hell started ù.ù
(Took the torrent file not the 3 separated, yes i choose 2013 steam , yes i tried to reinstall the game , yes i put the OGG folder into Data folder ) the files that are inside the "new folder" that the WaR creates .. they just don't work. if i use the launcher that's inside there the game doesn't start anymore , istead it creates a little icon near the date and the time wich keeps chaning in an FF8 icon and a big red "X" .The OGG songs are not played , but the old ones are , if for any reason i remove the original .sgt songs the game just ignores the .ogg (tried to merge all in the same folder , tried to leave it like that , tried to rename the ogg folder "dmusic" but it didn't work and the game doesn't play any song at all (just noises like steps , the sea , the wind etc ) ... this is my problem :| does anyone know how i can fix it ?

Can I add Kanye West and lil kim tracks to the battle themes with this?
I want the game to sound more urban and truer to its roots about everyday life.

You can put in any track you want if you are willing to edit it. for laughs i put in that he-man song as a replacement for Eyes on me

Hmmm. This is really helpful, actually. I really wish there was a Black Mages version of The Legendary Beast, so I could make the entire final battle sequences a Black Mage marathon, haha... (they're such teases for sticking that little 15 second snip of it into Laguna's battle theme)

If I get around to it, I might make a loop of their version of Force Your Way, because I'm surprised a version isn't linked here. Of course, gotta cut out the little build up at the start (the first 23 seconds), because it kinda drags it out and the boss theme really works best with it starting right away.

edit: Installing the mod now, seems this was included? Heh
edit 2: Appears the intro was not cut. Not happy. I may remedy this later.
