That to me was really odd considering what evil personal stuff the turks did to avalanche. Its like the old plot was completely abandoned. But in seifers defense, seifer was being hypnotized you can tell. First part with the abduction of the president, well he did that for garden in his mind anyway. After that's its obvious delusions and hypnotism. A form of magical Stockholm syndrome. I'm not defending seifers actions cause he did do a lot of badguy stuff. But was he in his right mind? Was he actually seifer when he did these things? Its the same as winter soldier from marvel, ws did some heinous stuff to people. But cap saw that it was all a brainwashing and ws use to be bucky a hero. It all has to do with intent, did seifer mean what he was doing?
Feeding rinoa to that sorceress was a clear cut indication seifer was not in his right mind. She use to be his girlfriend... Why would you do that to someone you liked or loved? He had to be manipulated.
I'd also say that seifer got away with it, just cause he's seifer. Him and raijin, fujin didn't go back to balamb and say sorry. For all we know they are criminals now on their own as rogues and separate entities from balamb. Could very well be that seifers in trouble, but since he's a powerful seed, not so easy to just put him in a courtroom.
Another thing you may notice about the world compared to other FF's. The ruling powers are a bunch of inept buffoons. That's part of the crisis of ff8. Nobody knew how to govern or what was going on. Hell they put a random guy (laguna) in charge of a huge techno nation. That was why squall was such a huge hero, he came and took charge in a world that was in crisis for different reasons than other FF's. Seifer and squall, now that the sorceresses are out of the way, could very well be the most omni forces in the ff8 mythos.
In a way it all came full circle, first intro is these 2 in an epic sword duel. Now, they are the most dominate forces in the world and you know either another epic sword duel is coming, or there has to be reparations. I don't think seifers the type to swallow his pride and just submit, it all seemed like it was leading to a continuation to me.
I'd say don't overcomplicate it and just assume Seifer, Raijin, and Fujin have been pardoned, because ultimately it's Ultimecia who caused the event of FF8.
Huh?? Laguna successfully led Esthar resistance to overthrow Adel, effectively ending the Sorceress War. Tone down the fan fiction and pay attention to the actual story, m8w.
Look around and ask how people cope with the atrocities they have done during wartimes. Or even to a certain extent the cognitive dissonnance that takes a hold over us during "peace times".
The core conclusion of the post war trauma is: forgive and forget. There is a very strong power in redemption and forgivness. In the end (like in all FF games), the main culprit are overarchic forces that push humanity into chaos (Prinicpalities, Archons,...).
The only solution is for future generations not to repeat the same mistakes that lead us into Chaos. This is, unfortunately, an everlasting struggle of each Generation.
But, in the end, who cares, as the ending (if not 2/3 of the game) is probably just Squall's fever dream (or Near death experience) that ends in an idealized version of his life, aka Paradise.
Put the sword in the ground and pick up your fishing rod (with or without a hook, if you catch my drift).
