What are the benefits of playing triple triad?
I'm just wondering if I need to play cards with every single NPC I see and get a special card they got.

I've played triple triad before and the NPC's usually defeat me overall but I've only played a couple of games.

Even though I am a newb to the card game overall I wnat to know if there any benefits to playing Triple Triad.

Certain npcs have certain rare cards that you can collect throughout your playthrough. You do NOT need to play triple triad with every npc you see. Definately look at the guides available on steam/google as using card mod on some of the cards nets you valuable items that make the game a bit/very easy (card modding gilgamesh for Hero Wars being one of them). Other than certain achievements pertaining to the side game, you can beat FF8 without ever playing triple triad.

Once you acquire a couple of GF's and get decent cards, you will soon start winning at Triple Triad (if you understand what you're doing) and will begin to reap the rewards.

Other than the points that jong made, Triple Triad is one of the best and most addictive side games in any FF series! It's ace, and brings real depth to the game.

does the silly chocobo game, chocobo world (that runs in the background) on this steam version? there is only two cards you'll want and they are
laguna card = 100 heroes (ellone has this)
Squall card = 3 three stars (laguna has this)
talk about keeping it in the family lol

The biggest game draw to TT is the ability to later refine cards into useful items such as Hero Wars, Three Stars etc. Although "MOST" of these items can be found in the world, cards will give you a significant number of them with a single refine so it makes it slightly faster. Cards can also be used to get useful magic for your characters as well (refine card, refine item to magic).

Aside from the game being fun, it's definitely useful and there is a significant advantage to playing cards.

anyone else have all 'Monster' Cards (except PuPu), Quitsis Card, MiniMog Card before Leaving Garden to visit Ifrit? That was a fun challange. Need to get given the 7 cards on 2nd floor, then use them to beat almost everyone in Garden multiple times to do it.

I probably got about halfway with that challenge before. Triple Triad is certainly addictive, particularly early on imo.

until Random, same/plus/same wall, elemental, and facedown and fliped spreads everywhere!

I don't know why people are bothered by Elemental. It hardly makes a difference especially since most of the time you'll have much more powerful cards than your opponents.

elematal was -1 if you didn't use correct element. Add that to random and facedown, and flipped and you'd lose cards everywhere. That -1 lost me ALOT of cards.

Elemental is fine, your cards are so much better the difference is neglible. The real problem is Same because it doesnt matter how good your cards are because it sums with the crappy values of cards you've taken, random for obvious reasons and the direct trade rule because 9 times out of 10 even if you win you've still lost :KOh:

I never had any problems with SAME or PLUS, or even SAME WALL, it was just each turn took longer as I did the math in my head to determin potential results (unless OPEN had gone, then I had problems) other than that RANDOM was the trouble.
so SAME, PLUS and/or SAME WALL, without OPEN
or RANDOM
were the only trouble spots - the first is very specific (and if you know what your doing, almost impossible) the second.....Luna Base and Laguna's card (Ellone has it) annoyed me. Eventually I sold items to make space for refining, then refined EVERY card below L8 (So all MONSTER or BOSS cards) so RANDOM gave me a hand of 5 GF or CHARACTOR cards..... then ran around B.Garden re-collecting......

Trade rules . . . . I avoid ALL and DIRECT
After too many card games ALL turns into DIRECT on its own, which is why I avoid that one.
DIRECT needs no explenation.

Yep, you can work with Same/Plus/Wall but ONLY on Open! You don't have a hope in hell if Random is on as well.

Then there is just Random which is not an issue if you refine all your weak cards...but is a problem for that damn card achievement!

frustration, headaches, wasted time but really card refining for rare items you can just get through chocobo world now.

Yeah me too. Whenever I play triple Triad its either a draw or I lose.

Right and chocobo world is not a waste of time? The items redeemed through chocobo world are random so it would take exponentially longer to get the items you want, i honestly don't see how it's so difficult.
